Join Serco’s UK & Europe division as a Data Architect in our Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS) team and support with the development of functional roadmaps in consultation with business stakeholders to understand business processes and requirements, identify constraints and opportunities, and recommend optimal solutions. You’ll be responsible for the data design, data analysis, data repositories/warehouses, data reporting platforms, analytics platforms, data catalogues, knowledge management, and reporting support services. You’ll identify the most pragmatic delivery approach using consultancy partners, business teams and in-house resources.

As part of the MI&A team, you’ll be responsible for creating data analytics and reporting solutions to enable effective reporting and insight by business teams. You will engage closely with leaders in the business to understand and develop requirements, provide expert knowledge of the data structures and presentation tools to deliver value-adding analytical solutions. You will bring innovation and pragmatism to help develop new insights to grow and optimise the Serco business.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Build strong relationships with business and functional stakeholders to understand business direction, processes, issues, decisions, and shape data requirements for reporting, analysis, and insight.
  • Translate business requirements into costed data analytics designs, including data exploration, data analysis, presentation queries, report/dashboard, and analysis models.
  • Design, develop and test semantic or presentation layers for business MI teams to build reports against.
  • Advise on reporting and analytics tools selection for individual requirements. Consult with business teams on how to build reports and analytics to understand the what, why and what-if scenarios.
  • Create easy to understand, interactive and intuitive dashboards and business reports using both enterprise reporting applications and data visualisation tools.
  • Develop rapid prototypes and analytical models from various data sets to explore new business insights, using iterative development with close engagement with business stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and recommend the pragmatic and cost-effective approach to meeting report and analysts requirements, such as in-house development, delivery partner, specialist 3rd parties or otherwise based on scale, complexity and priority.
  • Demonstrate tools and data analytics subject matter expertise with our business Power Users. Provide coaching and guidance to drive self-service and develop their capabilities. Develop guides, training videos, provides briefings and webinars with the Power-User community.
  • Creation of high-quality documentation to describe data and reports using clear business language. Maintain data models, data dictionaries, report catalogues, business glossaries and data quality characteristics.
  • Contribute to the BI platform strategy and functional roadmaps to ensure the MI&A service remains technically appropriate to meet business requirements.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, Marketing, or equivalent work experience in IT.
  • Significant experience designing and building business intelligence reporting and analytics solutions with demonstrable business value-add.
  • Ability to earn trust and credibility from business stakeholders by shaping requirements, challenging assumptions, thinking critically, recommending solutions and collaborative delivery.
  • Delivery experience with corporate processes e.g. Finance, HR, Procurement, IT, and with operational or core-business information systems across several industry sectors.
  • Broad BI knowledge of AWS BI products (SQL, SSRS, Power BI, Flow, Excel).
  • Experience of industry best practice and standards.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to articulate a considered proposal if deviations from standards would provide a better solution.
  • Previous experience of working with third parties.
  • Must be able to achieve SC clearance upon appointment.
