The Opportunity

 

We’re working with an established and highly innovative organisation based in Halifax that’s going through an exciting digital transformation. They’re looking for a talentedMid-Level Data Engineerto join their growing tech team and help modernise the business’s data infrastructure. It’s a great opportunity for someone who thrives on turning complex, legacy data into clean, scalable systems with a forward-thinking mindset.

 

This is a hybrid role (2–3 days in the office), with flexibility following probation, and the opportunity to work on projects at the cutting edge of data and AI within a supportive, collaborative environment.

 

The Role

 

This isn’t just another pipeline job — you’ll be at the heart of a strategic shift. You’ll be tasked with designing and maintaining robust, scalable frameworks that allow the business to unify its legacy systems with a newly built modern data platform. Your work will directly support AI-driven decision-making and unlock the potential of data across the entire organisation.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

 

     Designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines and frameworks

     Collaborating with Business Analysts and AI Engineers to develop smart reporting and automation

     Cleaning, transforming and organising raw data into business-ready insights

     Enabling smooth, accessible data visibility for operational and analytical users

     Supporting the CTO in shaping data strategy and identifying areas for optimisation

     Contributing to the ongoing evolution of the company’s tech stack and architecture

 

What We’re Looking For

 

Must Haves:

 

·      2–4 years’ experience in a similar Data Engineering role

·      Excellent SQL and relational database knowledge

·      Strong understanding of data modelling and ETL/ELT processes

·      Familiarity with legacy systems (ideally Progress DB or similar)

·      Python skills for scripting and automation

·      A collaborative attitude with strong problem-solving skills

 

Nice to Have:

 

·      Experience with hybrid cloud/on-prem environments

·      Understanding of AI/ML use cases

·      PHP knowledge (for interacting with existing systems)

·      Exposure to data orchestration tools like Airflow or dbt

·      2–3 days a week in-office (Halifax), remote flexibility post-probation
