JobdescriptionThe Armed Forces and Veterans Services (AFVS) areresponsible for the delivery of payroll, pensions, welfare andcompensation services to over 180,000 regular and reserve personneland 1 million veterans and their families via numerous ITplatforms. The AFVS Data Team are responsible for delivering aneffective data management and governance service, in accordancewith Government/MoDs Data Strategies, Policies & Practices, forall AFVS’s systems which store, manage and process MoD businessdata, including their associated data interfaces.As a Data Analystyou will be expected to use your analytical skills and knowledge tobecome a subject matter expert in MoD business metadata for AFVS’smajor data systems (inc Armed Forces HR System andPensions/Compensation System). Responsibilities of role include:Work collaboratively with DBS’s Business Partner (SSCL) and SingleServices, to implement effective data governance and managementpractices to all data holdings and data interfaces in AFVS estate.Line management responsibility for one Support Metadata Analyst.Manage and maintain AFVS Data Systems Register (includinginbound/outbound interfaces). Identify potential new systems, theirbusiness use, data contents and Data Quality (DQ)/metadatarequirements. Support identification of critical data and definingwhat good data looks like. Undertake data lifecycle activities forcritical data and ensure its purpose and use are documented.Support the identification and investigation of DQ risks andissues, including root cause, business impact and potentialcorrective/preventive measures. Manage, monitor, and deliveraccurate Data Dictionaries, Data Models, Master Data Lists and DataLineage Reference Artefacts service to End Users/Stakeholders ofAFVS data (inc creating new bespoke metadata artefacts whenrequired) to promote intelligent use of data to improve decisionmaking and data insights. Maintain AFVS Military Data Team’sSharePoint sites, ensuring all sites managed in accordance with DBSITMS rules. Scrutinise Change Requests for AFVS Data Systems toensure any negative impacts to AFVS data including its managementand governance are identified. Support AFVS/SSCL in delivering DQby Design (DQbD) in any changes to promote improved DQ. Act asprimary reviewer of Data Team’s multiuser mailbox, includingtriaging messages, acknowledge receipt and forwarding to correctpoint of contact/Team member to answer. Support monitoring of dataobligations in Service Delivery Contract (SDC) to ensure DBSreceive value for money and benefit of incumbent Business Partner.Attend/participate AFVS data and technical meetings, datagovernance forums when required.
