Data Scientist ( R ) - Manchester Based

Our award winning SaaS client who offer local authority management software that utilises digital technology, behavioural insights and data science to build trust, drive efficiencies and maximise revenue is looking for a Data Scientist to join their growing function.

You will take over their new product delivery with your experience to time scale and moving forward having the opportunity to progress into management if this is something you foresee in your career.

The Data Scientist will work in the Insight Services team and be responsible for leading AI/ML and Data Science product development and research work, and supporting our multi-award winning AI product portfolio.

The Data Scientist will:

  • Undertake data collection, processing and analysis
  • Build models to address business problems
  • Present information using data visualization techniques
  • Develop (design, code and test), deploy & support code as part of our AI Products in Cloud-hosted infrastructure for use by end customers
  • Provide Level 3 type application support to our Customer Success team.

As a rough guide, approximately 80% of the time spent in this role will be aimed at new AI product development & enhancement, and 20% at Level 3 support activities.

Essential knowledge:

  • The ability to write valid and efficient SQL queries
  • Software application development in a Software Product environment
  • 2+ years' experience of developing in R with RStudio / Posit. Please note: prior R experience ismandatory
  • 2+ years' experience of working on modelling & API code
  • Development in an RDBMS environment such as MySQL, SQL Server etc.

  • Analyze large, complex data sets to derive actionable insights and create clear, informative visualizations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and provide data-driven solutions and recommendations.
  • Continuously improve existing machine learning models and introduce innovative solutions that add value to the company's services.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Stay informed on new technology trends and how they can be leveraged within the company.


Key Skills

  • Proficiency in R programming language with hands-on experience in data analysis and model building.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning, statistical analysis, and data mining techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Strategic thinker with outstanding communication skills, capable of conveying complex data insights in a clear and effective manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of data manipulation and extraction techniques.
