The IT Department

The Data Architect sits within the Enterprise Architecture team in our Technology Department, which is crucial to making sure our employees and students can work effectively, deliver projects, find the right solutions and ensure we develop the technology that will make the biggest difference. Our IT team is made up of around 60 employees with a vast range of skills from Software Development to IT Operations and Security. Our IT Department values employee development and we have lots of great examples of employee progression and promotions within the team.

The Role – Data Architect

The Data Architect will deliver technical direction and guidance for specific data initiatives, playing a lead role in the creation and delivery of Data Architecture direction and strategy to effectively support the current and future information needs of the business, in particular, MDM. This role will also design and implement specific data policy, ensuring alignment with the wider organisations modern, scalable data architectures, models and technologies.

Outcomes of this role include better governance of high value data, enhancing future opportunities to leverage data, enhancing data confidence throughout the business and enabling key stakeholders to access critical information to provide insight and gain business advantage. This role will bring clarity to Arden’s current data position, help build a shared vision for MDM and design and deliver plans to take us there.

The Data Architect will help to design and deliver data architecture strategy as a key player within the maturing Design Authority function, delivering positive change by bringing together people, process and best practice to embed a data operating model that fulfils the business objectives and enables better decision making.

The Data Architect will work as part of an empowered team of data experts to help deliver their plans, offering their support, and experience to ensure best practice processes are embedded in all activities.

About You

You might be an experienced Data Architect that’s looking for a new challenge, or even a Data Engineer / Developer that is looking to step up into a Data Architect role. To be successful as a Data Architect you must have:

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent analytical problem-solving skills to approach data management challenges with a clear eye on what is important, employing the right approach/methods to make the maximum use of time and human resources.
  • Strong experience of delivering technical direction for data architecture transformation, including enterprise projects, using TOGAF or other frameworks, to deliver best practice including master data management.
  • Knowledge of the different types of Master Data Management, with the ability to propose an appropriate approach to address data quality issues and other data challenges.
  • Appreciation and understanding of best practices in end-to-end solution architecture design, delivery and estimation including cloud data architecture.
  • Experience of supporting data governance and data quality processes by collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Extensive experience with enterprise data management technologies, such as database platforms, integration technologies, ETL tools and SQL, as well as data modelling techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of traditional database platforms (preferably SQL Server), MPP, NoSQL and Columnar data stores.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • TOGAF or other EA framework certifications.
  • Experience of Cloud Data Platforms such as AWS, Azure or Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience of implementing Master Data Management processes or platforms.
