Technical Business Data Analyst
Contract Length: 6 Months Initially (Extension Possible)
Location: Hybrid Working (3 Days a Week Onsite - Maidenhead)
IR35 Status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella / PAYE)

Are you a detail-oriented Business Analyst with strong SQL skills and a passion for data-driven solutions? We're looking for a Technical Business Data Analyst to join our client's commercial data team, helping to shape scalable data products and drive strategic insights across the enterprise.


About the Role

You’ll act as the key interface between business stakeholders and technical teams, gathering and translating requirements into robust data solutions. Your SQL expertise will be essential in validating data, building queries, and supporting analytics workflows.


Key Responsibilities

Requirements Gathering & Stakeholder Engagement



  • Lead workshops and interviews to capture detailed business and data requirements.
  • Translate business needs into clear, actionable technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritise and deliver high-impact solutions.

SQL & Data Validation



  • Write and optimise SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and validate data.
  • Support data profiling, cleansing, and quality assurance activities.
  • Perform root cause analysis on data anomalies and inconsistencies.

Data Product Design & Delivery



  • Work with Data Engineers to design scalable data pipelines and models.
  • Contribute to feasibility assessments and prototype development.
  • Ensure alignment between business logic and technical implementation.

Governance & Documentation



  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of requirements, data flows, and validation processes.
  • Champion data governance and stewardship best practices.
  • Support incident management and resolution for data-related issues.

Data Literacy & Enablement



  • Promote data literacy across business units.
  • Guide stakeholders in framing analytical questions and interpreting results.
  • Support adoption of new data tools and processes.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Strong SQL skills for querying, validation, and analysis.
  • Proven experience gathering and translating business requirements in data-focused environments.
  • Familiarity with data modelling, ETL processes, and pipeline design.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data warehousing tools.
  • Exposure to BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik).
  • Understanding of version control (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
  • Experience or knowledge of Foundry (Palantir) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
