We’re embarking on an ambitious two-year programme to cultivate an Open Data-driven culture, harnessing mature analytics and data science to embed insightful, data-driven decision making across our organisation. To accelerate this vision, we’re expanding our team and seeking a Business Data Analyst to join our established Data Strategy and Operations team within the Performance and Insights function.

What You’ll Do

As a Business Data Analyst, you will:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to gather, analyse, and document data reporting requirements, transitioning manual reports to automated, scalable solutions.

  • Map data flows to ensure data lineage and integrity, working closely with architects and development teams.

  • Apply business analysis techniques such as process mapping and gap analysis to identify data-driven opportunities that enhance operational efficiency and strategic outcomes.

  • Partner with technical teams—including data engineering, architecture, and IT—to deliver high-quality reports, dashboards, and data products.

  • Communicate complex data insights clearly and compellingly to both technical and non-technical audiences, acting as a trusted advisor.

  • Contribute to the design of sustainable, scalable data architectures aligned with business and technical standards.

  • Champion data quality, governance, and compliance principles throughout all projects.

What You Bring
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in data-related projects, including process design, solution design, and data transformation.

  • Proven skills in business analysis, data mapping/modelling, and documenting comprehensive data requirements.

  • Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, data warehousing, and ETL principles.

  • Proficiency with SQL and familiarity with scripting languages like Python or R.

  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools and data visualisation platforms (QlikSense knowledge is a plus).

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to translate complex data concepts into understandable, actionable business insights.

  • A natural curiosity for data and a passion for continuous learning and improvement.

  • Water industry data knowledge (Billing, Customer, Asset, Hydraulics, GIS) is advantageous but not essential.

Benefits
  • Salary £46,000 - £58,000 per annum dependant on experience
  • Hybrid role, with the expectations of a minimum two days a week in the office in Hatfield
  • Annual leave from 26 days rising with length of service, and the option to purchase up to 5 extra days.
