Role purpose

First of all - we're adaptable and interested in a mix of people to make the best team. We're currently looking for someone that has a lot of front-end experience but is comfortable building in the back-end too.

This is an early hire for a young, fast growing consultancy. We're looking for someone that is adaptable and driven that wants to grow with our business and have a strong say in how we shape the company.

Work with our expert data and analytics consultants to help customers deliver more value from their data.

This will be a key role in the technical leadership and delivery teams and will guide the ongoing technology strategy and roadmap goals of our customers.

Day-to-day work will involve project delivery and collaborating with stakeholders across our internal and customer teams. Technical work will include building, testing, deploying, maintaining, packaging, and explaining software solutions for our customers - built with modern tools across the open source and cloud platform landscape.

You'll have to get stuck into the end-to-end software development workflow - everything from requirements gathering to deploying front-end solutions.

You'll spend time capturing requirements and working with the other consultants to turn them into production-grade solutions - getting value into production is our prime concern for all our engagements.

You will act as a champion and subject matter expert for software engineering across the business, helping to cross-skill and upskill others.

You will also be heavily involved in the outreach and knowledge sharing that Hypercube does. We strongly believe that giving back to the community is an important part of our purpose and the best way to learn. We will help you grow your brand through speaking, blogging, or other outreach methods should you wish.

Finally, you’ll be in the driving seat to help shape and win new projects, whether that be through presales demos, meeting with prospective customers, or shaping longer-term relationships.

Accountabilities

  • Work with developers, managers, and business stakeholders to understand and define components of the technology landscape and how it relates to the business strategy
  • Understand and translate end-user requirements into designs and delivery plans for effective back-end and front-end software
  • Leverage open source and cloud platform technologies to deliver robust solutions
  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain software solutions and front-end web applications for our customers
  • Discover, analyse, and present findings to customers and stakeholders
  • Build, maintain, and support our wider data platform, machine learning and AI solutions using the latest best practices in DevOps and CI/CD
  • Produce high-quality communications, documentation, and presentations of solutions for colleagues and customers
  • Subject matter expert and evangelist for software engineering practices
  • Contribution to Hypercube’s blog and other outreach efforts
  • Working with the business development team to shape and win new projects
  • Helping to grow both our internal knowledge and skillsets as we scale.

Technical skills

We understand that this list is extensive – please apply if you fit some or only part of it we're flexible and are mostly looking for bright people who can adapt as the role grows. We want to see the broadest range of possible candidates from a diverse mix of backgrounds. Technical skills are only part of the equation.

Ideally, you will have hands-on experience with the following in a previous role:

  • Working with stakeholders in interviews to create designs and user stories for solutions
  • Javascript/Typescript
  • React
  • Python
  • SQL
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • CI/CD, DevOps
  • Testing

Additional experience with the following would be beneficial but not essential:

  • Java
  • Infrastructure, Docker, Kubernetes and container services
  • Containers and related services (AKS, Container Registry)

Other desirable skills and experience

  • Ability to act as a driving force in a growing data and analytics consultancy
  • Building projects or sharing knowledge in public – whether that be contributing to open source, blogging, YouTube, content creation, speaking at events, or similar.
  • Strong stakeholder management
  • Experience translating difficult business questions and designs of data solutions into action
  • Analysis/requirements gathering, solution design, and implementation of data science solutions
  • Experience in collaborating in multi-disciplinary teams, including software engineers, DevOps and infrastructure teams, data scientists etc.
  • Experience in working with AI and advanced analytics systems and data pipelines in a production cloud environment
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal – able to translate complex technical subject matter into easily understood presentations and written documentation for mixed technical audiences.

What’s in it for you?

Hypercube is a young, growing data and analytics consultancy that aims to bring in the best possible talent to solve the most interesting challenges for our customers. We’re willing to do what it takes to secure the best possible people. We want to build a world-class team.

Veterans in Machine Learning: A Military‑to‑Civilian Pathway into AI Careers

Introduction Artificial intelligence is no longer relegated to sci‑fi films—it underpins battlefield decision‑support, fraud detection, and even supermarket logistics. The UK Government’s 2025 AI Sector Deal forecasts an additional £200 billion in GDP by 2030, with machine‑learning (ML) engineers cited as the nation’s second most in‑demand tech role (Tech Nation 2024). The Ministry of Defence’s Defence AI Strategy echoes that urgency, earmarking £1.6 billion for FY 2025–28 to embed ML into planning, logistics, and autonomous systems. If you have ever tuned a radar filter, plotted artillery trajectories, or sifted sensor data for actionable intel, you have already worked with statistical modelling—the backbone of machine learning. This guide shows UK veterans how to reframe military experience for ML roles, leverage MoD transition funding, and land high‑impact positions building the models shaping tomorrow’s defence and commercial landscapes.
