Purpose of the role

Reporting to the Head of Pricing & Underwriting (Accident & Health), the Senior Pricing Analyst is responsible for the co-ordination of pricing activity for key clients of the International Health and Dental insurance portfolios, in line with the corporate strategy. Underwriting is conducted at brand level, white labelling for our key partners.

As an Analyst, you will be responsible for contributing to the schemes and product profitability. This includes setting base rates and managing scheme performance against targets. You will be responsible for tracking of losses and co-ordination of any mitigating actions required.

Strong interest in data analysis is at the core of this role. This includes focus on interpreting and maximising data effectively and drilling down to relevant KPIs. These are released into monthly reporting and utilised in key pricing decisions.

This is a varied role demanding a good balance between core pricing principles, data analysis/MI, commercial delivery and excellent communication skills. It is a real opportunity to contribute to the shape and execution of the next steps in Collinson’s broader Health line of business strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exemplify best pricing principles by enhancing pricing models to inform business decision making, driving deeper insights for our clients
  • Champion and developing use of new tools to manipulate and present data more efficiently.
  • Calculating and compiling group experience rated quotations to clients and intermediaries.
  • Co-ordination of annual renewal pricing & product reviews, utilising scheme data to propose & implement enhancements to support / develop scheme performance.
  • Carry out product reviews– following with discussing product nuances / changes with underwriters and translating those into pricing impacts. 
  • Building management information outputs for monitoring key performance indicators. 
  • Monitor and analyse sales and underwriting performance, utilizing market research to identify and champion best practice.
  • Working to achieve sign-off of new products and pricing by managing referrals into various internal and external teams, including reinsurance partners 
  • Making recommendations where required to improve the current pricing approach, with a view to balancing top-line growth and bottom-line profitability 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

Subject Matter Experience

  • Experience in technical pricing with an understanding of Health insurance products.
  • Analytical thinking required - Excellent attention to detail and ability to analyse and manipulate data to make pricing decisions
  • Statistical Pricing - articulating statistical trends into actionable insights; translating into recommendations for technical & non-technical audiences.
  • Experience of pricing new and renewing portfolios using product and pricing strategies to grow and manage performance based in multiple geographic regions.
  • Experience in juggling different tasks/projects and priorities in front of stakeholders at various levels of the organisation.

  • Strong focus on delivery, cutting across different job levels and departments
  • An aptitude to thinking beyond the numbers when developing new business products
  • Good business acumen, the ability to balance creativity with strong commercial delivery.
  • A genuine interest in the Health & Dental markets and an awareness of the customer journey.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders internally and externally – a successful influencer (internal & external stakeholders) and effective relationship builder
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in disseminating complex technical concepts to a non-actuarial audience

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience within Consumer lines (Health products preferred) Insurance experience in a similar role
  • Strong command of MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word (intermediate/advanced). Previous experience of SQL/SAS/ Tableau/Power BI & manipulating insurance data is advantageous.
  • Progression towards Data Analyst / Actuarial Qualification is desirable but not essential
