Employment type: Permanent  

Work hours: Monday-Friday, 9 am-5.30 pm 

Location: Remote working – on occasion, visiting our head office in Bideford 

 
What will I be doing? 

As our Senior Data Engineer, you'll be joining our growing Data Team to help take the business to the next level by enhancing the data held within our data warehouse. You’ll play a key role by designing, building, testing and operating data transformations, collaborating closely with colleagues in the product engineering team and across other departments. 

As part of your everyday role, you’ll be involved in the following: 


  • Developing and maintaining data pipelines and ETL processes to integrate and transform diverse data sources into a unified data model.  

  • Designing and implementing data models and database schemas to store and manage large volumes of structured and unstructured data.  

  • Collaborating with people across the business, including product managers and developers, to define data requirements and understand data usage patterns.  

  • Optimising data solutions by leveraging techniques such as partitioning, indexing, and caching.  

  • Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior data developers and engineers.  

  • Developing and maintaining data quality assurance processes to verify the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of the data.  

  • Assisting in troubleshooting production issues to resolution, ensuring measures are implemented to prevent recurrence.  

  • Providing out-of-hours support as required in line with organisational SLAs.  

  • Staying updated with the latest industry trends and best practices. 

What are we looking for?

Ideally, we’re looking for commercial experience of: 
 


  • Data warehousing  

  • Recent Snowflake 

  • Python, SQL 

  • JSON, XML 

  • MySQL 

  • MSSQL Server 

  • AWS Glue 

Alongside other experiences such as: 


  • Experience or a passion for mentoring and offering technical guidance 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

  • Understanding of testing strategies  

  • Being self-assured enough to challenge a technique or decision. 

  • Understanding and approaching difficult conversations in a diplomatic way.  

  • Being a good judge of priorities and understanding the bigger picture.  

  • Being persistent when advocating for quality deliverables, while accepting when compromises must be made.
