The Opportunity

We’re hiring for a Senior Data Engineer to maintain and deliver data products in line with business requirements which enable data driven decision making. You will understand business needs, design and deliver cloud solutions which enable data analysis across the business.

You will share knowledge and experience with more junior members of the team, help to improve coding standards and knowledge of Azure cloud products and languages. Describe complex concepts to improve understanding across the team, show more junior members what good looks like.

You will collaborate with our BI team to provide the best solutions for our customers and move our platform to the next stage and explore Data Engineering concepts and advocate for Data within the business, demonstrating what a well-designed data platform can provide for our internal customers.

The Team

The data team is an enabling team and as such it is important to note that we are a key function for all other teams across the business. We consist of two teams – Business Intelligence Developers and Data Engineering – who work closely alongside each other from end to end. We design solutions together and share best practice. Within the teams we recognise individual skillsets and encourage knowledge sharing sessions and self-development.

About You

We are looking for a driven individual who has a keen eye for detail and strives to ensure that they produce accurate information through visually appealing reporting. Ideally, you will be comfortable liaising with technical teams to understand how business processes reflect in the data produced.

What you will do:


  • You will design, deliver and improve data products in a timely fashion.
  • You will develop the current data warehouse solution, designing and developing facts and dimensions for use in analysis.
  • You will assist the BI and Analytics teams in interpreting requirements and deliver engineering solutions which meet the business needs.
  • You will constantly challenging yourself to find new methods or technology to reduce the time required to ingest and self-serve data.
  • You will be an advocate for data around the business, identify areas where data engineering can solve problems and present solutions back to the business and wider data team.
  • You will enable more junior members of the team, distribute your knowledge throughout the team by pairing, presenting and coaching.
  • You will iterate on our ways of working and improve efficiency across the team, assisting with peer review, QA and release processes.
  • You will oversee projects which ingest or produce data around the business, provide technical advice and education to product teams on good Data Engineering practice.

Skills you will need:


  • 5 years+ working in Data Engineering function.
  • Databricks, Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure SQL DW.
  • Managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment alongside evolving the data tech stack and practices.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and how they can be used to solve modern business problems.
  • Experience of Kimball Methodology and Star Schemas (dimensional model).
  • Experience of working with Enterprise Data Warehouse Solutions.
  • Experience of working with Structured and Unstructured Data
  • Google Analytics Data preferred.
  • Retail environment preferred.
  • A good understanding of cloud technologies and DevOps practice -  Scaling and cost, CI/CD, cost saving best practice.
  • Dedicated to helping improve coding and technology standards across the team.
