Senior Full Stack Data Engineer

Job Description

The Business Analyst lll (BA lll) role will work on the Platform team, acting as a bridge between the Whitespace development team and the customer’s staff, both business and technical.

They will write and communicate specifications based on business requirements, clarifying and giving further examples where necessary. Testing is also a significant part of the role, ensuring the system does what was intended and iterating and improving as and when required.

They will also act as a mentor to the junior members of the BA team, offering support and sharing expertise.

Main Duties  

  • Develop an understanding of the Platform functionality
  • Gather, clarify and communicate business requirements
  • Build a joint understanding of the requirements across the other stakeholders, including designers, developers and testers
  • Work with colleagues to translate business requirements into functional requirements
  • Respond to questions and eliminate vagaries during the development phase
  • Review the coverage of tests executed by the QA team, taking part in the testing of the Platform and system integrations
  • Analyse business processes, functions and procedures
  • Liaise with other BAs around escalations and problem resolution
  • Mentor and advise junior BAs
  • Manage expectations and problem-solving to establish relationships built on trust and delivery
  • Execute training for clients and other team members
  • To manage Junior BAs and support them with their analysis and user story writing

Compliance & Training 

  • Adhere to all company & regulatory policies and procedures as instructed 
  • Carry out all training provided to deadlines prescribed 
  • Work with compliance on IT relevant areas such as Data Security and Financial Crime 
  • Execute the responsibilities of a company employee acting in a lawful and ethical manner in accordance with your contract of employment and company staff handbook 
  • Work with department manager for own professional development, including performance appraisal and identifying and meeting training needs in order to ensure competence and compliance with current regulations

Qualifications

Experience Required 

  • Experience of working in a technical environment
  • Significant experience within a London Market Broker Company
  • Experience in eliciting and documenting business requirements
  • Able to build and develop good client relationships

Education / Training / Qualifications required 

  • Degree desirable but not essential
  • CII LM2 or equivalent qualification in Insurance Practices would be beneficial

Knowledge / Skills / Attributes required 

  • Experience with JSON data files
  • A good understanding of API driven solutions
  • A basic understanding of how document based/NoSQL databases function
  • Passion for using data and data structures to drive strategic and architectural decision-making
  • Self motivated
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent listening, negotiating and presentation skills
  • Ability to operate collaboratively with colleagues is essential
  • Understanding of stakeholder management
  • Understanding of client needs and ability to react to those
  • Understanding of process design and documentation methodologies
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Willingness to learn and be agile in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to listen and retain new information quickly to disseminate to relevant internal stakeholders
  • Good understanding of the London Insurance Market
  • Solid experience with MS Office

Knowledge / Skills / Attributes desirable 

  • Understanding of global Insurance Industry practices
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle
  • Ability to translate functional requirements into solution designs
