We are relatively flexible on experience, ranging from newly graduated up to 2 years experience. A passion for data is a must as is a strong interest in Insurance / Reinsurance. Find out more atwww.hiscoxre.comThe role involves Focusing on improving our portfolio using data and technology: How to best balance the risk we take against the capital available, optimising our return whilst keeping within our risk appetite. Testing how underwriting and reinsurance changes impact the overall profitability of Hiscox Re and the wider group. Helping to shape the long term strategy for Hiscox Re. Look for new ways to bring technology into our decision making processes to help modernise our business. What you’ll be doing You will be immersed in multiple forms of data from different sources. Building models to analyse and optimise different scenarios. Collating, validating and being accountable for providing data to others in the group. Creating visualisations to derive and demonstrate insight from the underlying data. Our must haves The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, preferably a 2:1 or higher in Maths / Physics / Computing / Data Science from a leading university. A creative self-starter – you’ll have the ability and energy to learn under multiple learning styles then take that knowledge and creatively apply it to solve issues. An ability to think outside of the box and ask “what-if?” An inquisitive, analytical mind-set – a passion for pulling things apart and understanding both how they work and how they get used. A high level of IT literacy – some coding experience preferable (e.g. SQL / Snowflake /Python or other modern language). A love of picking up and learning new coding languages is a must. A good communicator – an ability to explain technical work to a range of different audiences. Our nice to haves Experience or knowledge of insurance and/or reinsurance capital modelling including an understanding of portfolio management theory and statistical techniques. Visualising data – working with packages such as Power BI to display complex data to provide a clear, concise message. Interest or experience with AI/ML to explore new ways of digesting/exploring our current data sets.
