As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Data Platforms team in the Chief Data & Analytics Office, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives. We build data catalogs, data model authoring and storage platforms, and code generators amongst other things.

Job responsibilities

  • Execute creative software solutions, design, develop, and troubleshoot with the ability to think beyond routine approaches to build solutions or resolve technical problems.
  • Develop secure, high-quality production code, review, and debug code written by others.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate recurring issues to improve operational stability of applications and systems.
  • Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability within existing systems.
  • Lead communities of practice across Software Engineering to promote awareness and adoption of new technologies.
  • Add to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • 7+ years of experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Hands-on experience delivering full software development lifecycle projects.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages.
  • Experience with automation and continuous delivery methods.
  • Understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
  • Proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a discipline like cloud, AI, or machine learning.
  • Practical cloud-native experience.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Expertise in building microservices using Java, Spring Boot, AWS.
  • Experience leading the engineering of solutions in metadata and data model engineering.
  • Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with open search or Elasticsearch.
  • Experience managing small teams.
  • Scala experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
