  • Interest in data engineering: Keen to explore tools like Pandas or Polars, learn about ETL processes, and gain experience with cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure.
  • Willingness to learn: Having the growth mindset to adapt to new tools, technologies and approaches such terraform, git, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, git, among others.
  • Passion for Programming: A genuine fascination and passion for programming and software engineering, viewing it not just as a job but as a craft you genuinely enjoy.

It's a bonus (but not essential) if you bring experience in some of the following areas:

  • Cloud analytics: Exposure to cloud-based data platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Databricks.
  • PySpark: Any hands-on experience using PySpark for data processing.
  • Azure services: Familiarity with Azure tools like Data Factory.
  • Data fundamentals: Awareness of data structures, algorithms, data quality, governance, and data modelling concepts.
  • Development tools: Experience with software engineering tools such as VS Code, linters, pytest, or basic bash/Linux commands.
  • Ways of working: Understanding of change management, Agile methodologies, and delivery processes.

Don't worry if you don't tick all of these boxes you're not expected to. We offer a structured training programme to help you develop these skills as you advance in your career with us.

What success would look like:

  • Building Reliable Data Pipelines: Consistently delivering well-tested and robust data pipelines using Python and PySpark on Databricks, adhering to established coding standards and software engineering best practices.
  • Growing Technical Proficiency: Rapidly developing your skills in our core technologies (Python, PySpark, Databricks, SQL, Git, GitHub Actions, Terraform) and actively contributing to solutions with increasing independence.
  • Effective Collaboration: Proactively engaging with engineers and other teams, clearly communicating progress and challenges, and contributing constructively to team discussions and problem-solving.
  • Driving Innovation & Teamwork: Actively participating in the adoption and improvement of our engineering processes, demonstrating a keen interest in continuous learning, being a proactive team player, and enthusiastically presenting or demonstrating new technical approaches and developments.
