Purpose of the job

Reporting to the Head of Pricing & Underwriting (Accident & Health), the Product and Data Analyst will be responsible for contributing to the management of our product collaterals. This is including review of existing products and enhancing / control of product terms and conditions. Experience in data analysis and understanding impact of product changes to price would be required.

Knowledge and interest in health insurance products is at the core of this role. This includes data analysis with focus on interpreting data effectively, drilling down to customer impact which can be communicable to clients.

This is a varied role demanding a good balance between data analysis / MI, product, customer and excellent communication skills. It is a real opportunity to contribute to the shape and execution of the next steps in Collinson’s broader Health line of business strategy

Key Responsibilities

Product

    • Carry out product reviews, assess what changes needed to align / differentiate with the market.
    • Keeping abreast of changes in existing products across the market
    • Compiling policy wordings, in conjunction with the Compliance department, to reflect the cover provided by the policy in line with the pricing interpretation & expectation.
    • Demonstrating consistent adherence to local governance principles, primarily focusing on fair treatment of the end customer.
    • New product development from idea to launch – involvement and ownership of every stage of the product cycle, with a direct impact in the results for A&H.
    • Supporting Account and Business Development and Marketing teams when creating / enhancing products, with a strong focus on customer need and customer communication.

Data

    • Analysing premium and claims data to assess drivers from a product perspective behind the performance
    • For existing schemes, contribution to annual product reviews, utilising scheme performance data to propose and implement enhancements.
    • Day-to-day Medical Underwriting of Health products, working with the operational policy admin, claims and assistance teams. Acting fairly, properly, and communicating the underwriting decisions to partners / customers.

 Knowledge, skills and experience required 

    • Experience in insurance product / data with an understanding of Health insurance products.
    • Ability to analyse data to assist in underwriting decisions
    • Ability to articulate statistical and data trends into actionable insights and translate these into easy-to- understand recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Excellent attention to detail/analytically focused and a strong understanding of data manipulation.

    • An aptitude to thinking beyond the numbers when developing new business products

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in Consumer lines (Health products preferred) Insurance experience in a similar role
  • Strong command of MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word (intermediate/advanced). Previous experience of manipulating insurance data is advantageous.
  • Broader awareness of insurance regulation would be advantageous
  • Educated to degree level in a numerate subject (Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Science preferred) or equivalent professional qualification.
