ONEr2p r2p UK Systems Ltd is looking for a Head of Software Development (m/f/d) to lead the development of its smart transport solutions. r2p UK specialises in real-time information (“RTI”) solutions for the bus market including a real-time passenger information product platform (“iConnex”) and on-street and on-bus information displays, fleet vehicle tracking, departure predictions, management and reporting and traffic signal priority solutions. r2p UK also sells to and supports a large number of UK rail customers for the r2p Group’ products and services, notably CCTV, passenger counting, public address and passenger information systems. We are part of the r2p Group headquartered in Flensburg, Germany. The r2p Group operates internationally in 45 countries, with subsidiaries and sale offices in Denmark, UK, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, USA, Canada, Brazil, Australia and Malaysia. This is how You Make a Difference This permanent full-time role is based in our Crawley office and includes leading and managing the UK software development team as well as undertaking some development tasks themselves. You will also lead technology selection, production of technical documentation (requirements specification, functional specifications, work estimates etc), software design and programming. The role will need to adapt to commercially driven timescales, but also follow a strict release policy. You will be a key member of the senior management team and be actively involved in day-to-day management decisions, but will also collaborate and guide the company’s product road map. Responsibilities will involve, but are not limited to: Management responsibilities. Overseeing the combined development of the iConnex software product which comprises a Laravel web-based frontend and backend, and embedded software for real time devices. Inputting into the design and planning of the iConnex software and related products. Inputting into the selection on new technologies, and identification of technology areas that can be brought into the system. Responsibility for company adherence to technology and industry standards. Selection and procurement of productivity tools that support product development (IDEs etc). Management of the software development team including: regular weekly catchups, performance reviews and holiday/absence planning working with developers to scope and plan work packages monitoring actual development versus estimated timescales. project resource allocation, delegating and managing task priorities and maintaining the backlog mentoring staff Overseeing the software development process including organising the regular scrums and ensuring regular scrums occur organising code reviews managing the scrum board and ensuring that tasks accurately follow the development workflow defining/improving the overall development process developing in-house approach to unit and integration testing helping develop a comprehensive test suite Responsibility for test and live system deployment responsibility for deployment process in Jenkins/Ansible performing software releases and maintaining release notes Overseeing system documentation and contributing to the company product roadmap. Co-ordinating project deliverables, timescales and monitor project progress with the Delivery & Support Director. Regular reporting on development progress to the management team. Responsibility for approach to system security as the software level and the adoption of best practice. Liaising with systems administrator to plan system patching. Responsibility for overseeing and defining timescales for system and software package version upgrades. Defining and selection for software development roles both external and internal. Development Responsibilities Full Stack Development of the iConnex Application using Laravel/Vue You are organised and have a methodical and systematic approach to problem solving and documenting output. a team player and able to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers. able to work effectively under pressure. proactive, have a customer centric approach and excellent attention to detail. What you Bring to the Table Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Maths, Physics or related degree. 10 software development experience. 5 years previous software development team management/leading experience. Technical Skills - Essential PHP 8, Laravel 8, Vue 2/3 Agile/Scrum/Jira Linux git mariadb/mysql Technical Skills – Desirable docker Jenkins Redis MQTT Apache Webserver Elasticsearch Networking nodejs MongoDB Ansible Industry experience with Machine Learning Algorithm Development: Devised and implemented algorithms for real time predictions Mathematical Application: Applied mathematics to implement algorithm concepts.
