We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to lead data and reporting activities for the in preparation for the implementation of a new Adult Social Care management system in May 2026.

This role will ensure a seamless transition to a new data warehouse environment, and customer-focused business intelligence service delivery model.

You will bring expertise in SQL Server databases, ETL processes and data model design, along with a proven track record of data engineering within a healthcare or social care environment. A strong focus on delivering high-quality, secure, and accessible data services is essential to support informed decision-making and operational excellence across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • Collaborate with Information and service leads to understand service needs and translate them into data solutions
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data infrastructure migration strategy for migration and decommissioning of legacy infrastructure
  • Identify and test methods for robust, scalable, and efficient cross organisation data transfer
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to reporting workstream leads
  • Implement processes to monitor, troubleshoot, and improve data workflows in the new infrastructure
  • Catalogue existing data sources currently warehoused
  • Set-up and configure a new data warehouse solution for adult social care reporting addressing including networking, security, and access controls
  • Define roles and responsibilities for data access and usage
  • Validate and transform data during migration to conform data to reporting and insights

The data and information service plays a vital role in creating business intelligence products that support the needs of clinicians and patients. This involves collaborating with stakeholders to capture requirements, drafting detailed work specifications, and developing efficient data extraction processes.

The service ensures the accuracy and reliability of insights by rigorously testing and refining outputs to enable the release of high-quality reports and dashboards. The service developed reporting tools and data services should empower health and social care professionals with actionable insights, enabling informed decision-making and improved patient care

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Collaborate with Information Team Leads to understand service needs and translate them into data solutions.

Develop and execute a comprehensive data infrastructure migration strategy for migration and decommissioning of legacy infrastructure

Develop a detailed data migration and infrastructure set-up roadmap and workplans with milestones, timelines, and resource allocation.

Allocate resources effectively to meet project milestones and resolve project-related challenges.

Identify and test methods for robust, scalable, and efficient cross organisation data transfer

Provide hands-on technical guidance to ASM reporting workstream leads

Develop and test disaster recovery plans in the new environment.

Person specificationQualifications

  • Educated to master’s level, or equivalent knowledge, experience & expertise in Health Informatics
  • Evidence of continuous professional development within health informatics and business intelligence technologies
  • Management qualification or evidence of professional development in managing, coaching and developing staff
  • SQL professional certification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Substantial experience within health or care data management
  • Knowledge of healthcare service delivery models and information standards for Adult Social Care, Community and Acute services
  • Experience in designing and developing data models from complex healthcare data sources and in applying industry standard and best practice methods to conform data for reporting services
  • Experience in implementing and upgrading reporting systems including initiatives resulting from the redesign of patient care systems and procedures
