Data Scientist / Commercial Analyst – Manchester (1 day a week in office)

£45,000 – £65,000 + Share Options | Unlimited Holiday | Fast-Growth AI Scale-Up

We’re partnering with a well-funded AI scale-up based in central Manchester, currently expanding its Data & AI division. After years of strong growth and customer interest, they’re now on the cusp of rolling out key AI solutions to major retailers — and are looking for someone to help drive that next stage of delivery and insight.

This is a hybrid role – blendingdata scienceandcommercial analytics– and ideal for someone who’sgenuinely interested in human interactions, dynamics, and habits, and who wants to apply that curiosity toreal-world AI deployments, with a strong focus on data quality, reporting, and optimisation.

🧠 What You’ll Be Doing

  • Commercial Analysis & Reporting: Own and optimise the “shrink assessment” – a core part of the firm’s solution that helps retailers reduce loss and improve performance. You’ll lead deep-dive analysis, produce detailed reports, and contribute to weekly and quarterly customer reviews.
  • Video-Based AI Solution Monitoring: Work closely with internal teams and customers to ensure the video AI platform is delivering. Monitor performance, review AI classification outputs (true/false positives), and feed this back to improve product quality and reliability.
  • Pilot Support & Data Coordination: Support pilots and early-stage rollouts by selecting the right data, running initial analysis, and coordinating with internal and external video analysis teams to ensure consistency and insight delivery.
  • Dashboards & Data Infrastructure: Collaborate with an existing data scientist (Lucy) to manage and improve internal dashboards. You'll help maintain the reporting pipelines, troubleshoot inconsistencies, and ensure reliable data streams week-round.
  • Cross-Team Insight Generation: Liaise with product, engineering, and commercial teams to surface key findings, suggest improvements, and refine the AI product based on user behaviour, store-level insights, and data patterns.

🧩 What They're Looking For

  • Comfortable analysing and interpreting data fromvideo analysis, particularly focused onretail environmentsorin-store behaviour.
  • Strong withPythonandSQLfor data exploration, performance monitoring, and reporting.
  • Able to work through some of the morerepetitive, detail-heavy aspectsof analysis — you're methodical, reliable, and don’t cut corners.
  • A naturalproblem-solverwith an eye for patterns, inconsistencies, and optimisation opportunities.
  • Experience presenting findings to non-technical stakeholders – ideally inconsulting, retail,Big 4, or a similarly commercial setting.
  • Exposure to tools likePower BI,Excel, and cloud platforms (e.g.Azure) is useful but not essential.

🚀 Why Join?

  • Be part of arapidly growing, well-backed AI firm with a product already gaining strong traction in market.
  • Work at the cutting edge ofAI video analysis, helping retail clients reduce loss and improve store experience.
  • Real ownershipof your work – you’ll play a vital role in shaping how data is selected, used, and delivered.
  • Friendly, fast-paced culture with strong mentorship from senior data scientists and commercial leaders.
  • 1 day a week in the office, unlimited holiday, and agenerous share packageas part of your total comp.

This is a unique opportunity for someone early to mid-career looking to combine technical data skills with commercial thinking – and get stuck into a solution that’s already transforming the retail space.
