Our Respiratory and Immunology Analytic team has an exciting opening for a Bioinformatics Senior Scientist to join our team. This role offers the chance to significantly contribute to the discovery and development of new treatments for a variety of diseases with unmet clinical need. You will support teams across the department, providing crucial data and analytics to guide project direction and strategy whilst simultaneously embodying and championing our culture.

We are looking for a passionate, innovative, and technically proficient researcher eager to expand their existing data and analytics expertise within the biological field. You will be tasked with creating custom analytics solutions, creative data visualisations, and promoting digital proficiency throughout our department, all with a focus to deliver new medicines to patients faster, and better.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Combining your biological knowledge and analytic skills to maximise impact in progressing new medicine opportunities
  • Developing intricate data-dashboards for lab assay outputs, providing unique insights to guide the direction and success of our novel drug targets
  • Implementing bioinformatic analytic workflows to deliver RNAsequencing data, differential gene expression and pathway analysis from first principles, and potential to expand into single cell and other cutting-edge technologies
  • Exploring and developing bespoke analytic solutions, unique data visualisations, and innovative data wrangling approaches/pipelines
  • Fostering and accelerating continuous learning in digital fluency throughout the department
  • Engaging closely with business partners in Human Genetics and Genomics, AIML, Data and Predictive Sciences, and Research Statistics to influence the development of new tools and platforms, and identify synergies applicable to our programs
  • Contributing to shape the strategy and ever-evolving future directions of the Respiratory and Immunology Analytic team
  • Maintaining a high level of documentation for all experimental work, in line with data integrity standards

Why you?

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • BSc or Masters in Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Computational Biology or other closely related biological discipline
  • Proven ability to code in R or Python, and its application in exploring and analysing complex biological datasets
  • Prior experience generating assay data in a biological laboratory setting (such as flow cytometry, protein assessment techniques, transcriptomics) and developing experimental methodology and system data outputs
  • Knowledge and application of statistical analysis methodology and bioinformatics tools
  • Experience using generative AI tools to extract and summarise knowledge, or leveraging as a digital ‘thought partner’ to accelerate and enhance your work
  • Understanding of biological processes driving disease pathology and mechanisms of therapeutic intervention
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present scientific findings to internal and external stakeholders in a balanced, clear, and precise manner
  • Excellent networking and collaborative skills with a proven track record of success in multidiciplinary team environments
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply:

  • PhD and/or familiarity with drug discovery and development processes through significant experience in a pharmaceutical R&D department
  • Proficiency with data visualisation of dashboarding tools such as Spotfire, PowerBI or Tableau
  • Experience of running deep analytic pipelines across the output from next generation sequencing technologies
  • Understanding of key AIML concepts, particularly in relation to drug discovery and development, and/or experience building machine learning models
