Speech and Language Therapist

Specialist SEMH School | Rural West Sussex

Part-Time | 3 Days per Week | Term Time Only

Salary: £31,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)

We are seeking an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to join a specialist SEMH and SEND school in rural West Sussex. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support children and young people with a range of communication needs, including:

  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Other neurodivergent profiles

The Role

As Speech and Language Therapist, you will play a vital role in creating and promoting a communication-supportive learning environment across the whole school.

Working closely with teaching staff, families and therapeutic colleagues, you will assess, identify and support learners' communication needs through a blend of direct intervention, consultation and collaborative working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of pupils with a wide range of communication needs.
  • Conduct holistic, strengths-based assessments.
  • Develop and implement tailored intervention plans.
  • Deliver and evaluate evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy interventions.
  • Support pupils through individual, group and whole-school approaches.
  • Provide advice, guidance and training to school staff.
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews, annual reviews and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Produce high-quality reports and maintain accurate clinical records in line with HCPC and RCSLT standards.
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers and external professionals.
  • Promote communication-friendly environments and embed effective communication strategies throughout the school day.

About You

Essential

  • Degree-level qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • CurrentHCPC registration.
  • Experience working with children and young people.
  • Excellent assessment, intervention and report-writing skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary working.
  • A genuine passion for improving outcomes for children and young people with additional needs.

Desirable

  • Experience working within educational settings.
  • Experience supporting children and young people with SEMH needs.
  • Experience working with neurodivergent learners, including Autism, ADHD, language disorders and learning difficulties.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, attachment-aware and relational approaches.
  • Additional specialist training relevant to SEND and communication needs.

Working Pattern

  • 3 days per week
  • 8:45am to 4:00pm
  • Term time only
