Trusted by institutions, governments, foundations and individuals worldwide, Macquarie Asset Management manages more than A$700 billion in assets under management across infrastructure, real estate, credit, equities and multi-asset strategies. As one of the world's largest and most experienced real assets investors, we play an important role in financing, developing and managing the assets that communities and economies depend upon every day.

We believe the next generation of value creation in private markets will be driven not only by capital and expertise, but increasingly by technology, data and AI. As investor expectations rise and business complexity grows, the ability to access better information, make better decisions and operate more effectively will become a defining source of competitive advantage.

Our Real Assets and Real Estate Technology team is at the forefront of that evolution. Partnering directly with investment and business leaders, we develop the technology, data and engineering capabilities that support a global investment business and help unlock new opportunities for growth.

This is an opportunity to apply technology, data and AI to challenges that matter, influencing how investment decisions are made, how businesses scale and how long-term value is created across a global real assets platform.

We are a global financial services group operating in 30 markets with 57 years of unbroken profitability. At Macquarie, you're empowered to shape a career that is fulfilling and creates value. You will bring your insights and expertise to the task at hand and feel supported as you make your own kind of impact for a better future.

What role will you play?

We're looking for a Principal Engineer / Senior Technical Lead to play a leading technical role across our global Real Assets and Real Estate technology estate.

You'll have influence well beyond a single application, product or engineering team. Working directly with senior leaders across Technology and Investment teams, and in partnership with Engineering, Product, Architecture and strategic technology partners, you'll shape architectural direction, make critical technology decisions and provide technical leadership across some of the most important technology challenges facing the business.

You'll play a key role in evolving the applications, services, platforms, data capabilities and engineering practices that underpin our investment business, improving how information moves across the investment lifecycle and creating new opportunities through automation, AI and modern engineering approaches.

You'll lead through technical credibility, influence and expertise rather than hierarchy. You'll be trusted to guide significant technical decisions, bring clarity and direction, and help ensure technology investments, engineering efforts and architectural choices continue to support the evolving needs of the business.

While your influence will extend across the wider technology estate, the role remains firmly grounded in technology. You'll be comfortable moving from strategy and architecture into design, code, integration or production problem-solving when needed, bringing the depth of expertise and technical judgement required to tackle complex challenges and move teams forward.

You'll create leverage through others, helping engineering teams make stronger technical decisions, navigate difficult technical trade-offs and continually raise the bar for engineering excellence. In doing so, you'll strengthen the technical capability of the wider engineering community and increase the impact of teams across the technology estate.

What you offer

  • A track record of leading the evolution of complex technology estates, shaping architecture, guiding significant technical decisions and delivering technology outcomes across large-scale, data-intensive environments.
  • Deep software engineering expertise, with a track record of designing, building and evolving modern applications, services and technology platforms. You'll bring strong technical depth across applications, distributed systems, APIs, integrations and data-intensive systems, alongside experience with technologies such as Python, FastAPI, Django and React.
  • A hands-on approach to engineering, remaining close to the code while influencing technical direction and raising engineering standards.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies, including AI-assisted software development, agentic workflows and intelligent automation. Experience leveraging tools such as Claude Code, Enterprise Claude, Gemini, Copilot or similar technologies to enhance engineering productivity and accelerate delivery will be highly regarded.
  • Experience within asset management, private markets or financial services would be beneficial, but we are ultimately looking for engineers who thrive on ownership, complexity and impact.
We love hearing from anyone inspired to build a better future with us, if you're excited about the role or working at Macquarie we encourage you to apply.

What we offer

At Macquarie, you're empowered to shape a career that's rewarding in all the ways that matter most to you. Macquarie employees can access a wide range of benefits which, depending on eligibility criteria, include:
