The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanentVRS Engineerto join ourConsulting Highwaysteam. This is a hybrid position and with shared office space across major cities in the UK, we welcome applications from Engineers across the country.

The role

As aVRS Engineer, you will support our continued growth and increasing workload through the production of highway designs, focusing on Vehicle Restraint Systems, and provide a unique chance to join a highly skilled highways design team. Responsibilities include:

  • Drive effective health and safety practices within your team.
  • Liaise with the Client and our Community partners to ensure solutions that are developed are suitable for buildability and maintainability.
  • Lead on the delivery of scheme design, as well as providing support to the Design Team Leader within the design team on various design duties including:
    • VRS Design
    • Surveys/Inspections
    • Feasibility and other technical reports
    • Planning, programming and cost estimation
    • Design production
    • Production of design schedules
    • Reviewing and amending design drawings
    • Production of Specifications
    • Supporting development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians
  • Work to programme to deliver specified designs on time.
  • Prepare technical reports (e.g. Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports).
  • Represent the business stream in multi-disciplined project teams.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the client and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure innovation and best practice is highlighted and adopted where practicable.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant technical standards.
  • Carry out site surveys, inspections and supervision of junior colleagues on site.
  • Keep up to date with your own personal development to ensure the natural growth of the team.

What you will bring to us:

  • Achieved or working toward CEng / IEng status (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering area.
  • Considerable experience in VRS design to DMRB.
  • Experience of mentoring and/or coaching less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Civil Engineer role or equivalent.
  • Ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
  • Experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations Technical report writing skills and associated knowledge.
  • Ability to use relevant design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, Autotrack, KeySign etc.).
  • Ability to lead design on schemes with support from Graduates and Assistant Engineers.
  • Ability to solve problems in collaboration with clients and other stakeholders.
