Job Overview
Arm technology powers everything from ultra-low-power IoT sensors to hyperscale cloud servers. In the Developer Platforms group, we build tools that help developers unlock the full potential of our architecture. We accelerate the first steps with new technologies, without losing sight of the path to production scale.

We take a holistic view of the developer journey, letting the problem space guide what we build. Our work has included CLI tools, web applications, VS Code extensions, language servers, and ML visualisation plug-ins.

Our current focus is on heterogeneous multi-processor systems and custom container runtimes. We're seeking candidates who can bring embedded systems expertise to our team of polyglot developers.

This is a unique opportunity to work across a wide range of technologies, transforming complex developer problems into intuitive solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and refine tools that make it easier for developers to build, test and deploy on Arm-based platforms.
  • Work flexibly across low-level systems programming and high-level application development to deliver seamless developer experiences.
  • Solve complex technical problems, working alongside peers and junior team members, and mentoring as necessary.
  • Form effective relationships with other engineers, product managers and UX specialists to deeply understand and empower users.
  • Engage with our agile planning and development processes to help shape delivery of our products

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong C programming with systems-level debugging experience
  • Experience with embedded development or Linux kernel/driver programming.
  • Ability to work confidently across multiple abstraction layers - from hardware to user-facing tools.
  • Comfortable tackling hard problems outside your area of expertise.

“Nice To Have” Experience:

  • Experience with the technologies below is helpful, but a willingness to learn is more important, and we actively support that growth.
  • Embedded systems experience (RTOS, Zephyr, FreeRTOS, board bring-up, HALs)
  • Linux internals (drivers, kernel, build systems, yocto)
  • Hardware abstraction layers and board support packages.
  • Inter-processor communication protocols (rpmsg, remoteproc, virtio, or similar)
  • Arm Cortex-A/M architecture knowledge.
  • Additional programming languages such as Go, Python, TypeScript, or Rust.

In Return:
You will join an established and experienced team working with innovative technologies in an agile environment which requires proactivity, dynamic approaches to problem solving and creative thinking. You will work on products which ship with new Arm hardware on day one.

Please provide a covering letter on application. If you don't quite tick all the boxes required, but are enthusiastic about the role, this is a great way to tell us why we should hire you.

Hybrid Working at Arm

Arm’s approach to hybrid working is designed to create a working environment that supports both high performance and personal wellbeing. We believe in bringing people together face to face to enable us to work at pace, whilst recognizing the value of flexibility. Within that framework, we empower groups/teams to determine their own hybrid working patterns, depending on the work and the team’s needs.
