Senior Research Scientist - Data Science & Machine Learning

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + 10% bonus + Benefits

Location: Chelmsford, United Kingdom (Hybrid: 2 days onsite, 3 remote)

Type: Permanent, Full-time (37 hours/week)

Focused on solving complex challenges in security, defence, and critical infrastructure, this role offers a unique opportunity to lead cutting-edge research in AI and statistical signal processing, especially in sequential data and decision-making systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical execution of projects, providing guidance and mentorship to junior researchers.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and documentation.
  • Drive innovative research in collaboration with internal teams, external partners, and UK universities.
  • Design and develop prototypes and proof-of-concept demonstrators.
  • Ensure project tasks are delivered to high standards within challenging timelines.
  • Communicate research findings effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior staff and support their development.
  • Publish and patent research outcomes as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • PhD or equivalent in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or statistical signal processing.
  • Proficiency in Python, with experience in libraries such as PyTorch and scikit-learn.
  • Domain expertise in radar, sonar, RF systems, autonomous systems, or distributed sensing technologies.
