You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.A Little More About Your RoleDelivering bespoke numerically-oriented geoscience projects to assist decision making in developing the subsurface, with a particular focus on modelling flow, transport and fluid migration processes. Our projects span: geological storage of nuclear waste; CO 2 and hydrogen, deep geothermal energy; mine hydrogeology and waste; and tunnels/excavations for infrastructure.Projects typically require groundwater flow and solute transport hydrogeological modelling, reservoir simulation and history matching, uncertainty analysis and/or simulation of coupled-processes (e.g. thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical-gas).Assisting with the development of software solutions (e.g. for data processing, analysis, numerical simulation, post-processing and visualisation) within the global geoscience modelling team, including development of WSPs in-house FracMan modelling software, to stay ahead of the market.Being proactive with WSPs global practice area networks (PANs) in seeking opportunities to collaborate on business and technical initiatives across Energy, Infrastructure, Nuclear waste and Mining sectors.Maintaining close links with our commercial clients in WSPs various business sectors, including seeking opportunities to offer our existing services, innovating new solutions to fit clients needs, or delivering software training courses.Supporting business development and writing proposals to help grow our portfolio of modelling projects and technical offering.Production of high-quality scientific/technical reports, and delivery of presentations.Communicate project deliverables to clients and be an advocate for our modelling services to both external and internal stakeholders.Staying abreast of the latest technological advances and industry trends in the fields of computational geoscience and numerical modelling.Your TeamYou will be joining a multi-disciplinary team of experts in the UK, with a focus on the delivery of technologically driven consulting and software solutions. Our projects range across industries including Energy (including renewables such as deep geothermal and CCUS, as well as oil & gas), Nuclear waste disposal (spanning geosphere characterisation, safety and engineering), Infrastructure (tunnels, slopes, geotechnics and underground storage), and Mining (from slope/bench stability, underground mining, to lithium extraction and leaching).This role reports to leaders of the WSP Geoscience group, located in the UK. The core of our UK-based team is made up of approximately 20 members, covering geology, geomechanics, flow simulation, geophysics and software engineering. We operate internationally and routinely collaborate with international geoscience and engineering colleagues in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Australasia on the delivery of world-class consulting projects.A choice of office locations is available for the role, with colleagues sitting in London/Reading, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Nottingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.What We Will Be Looking For You To DemonstrateDoctorate or Masters degree in a Mathematics, Engineering, Earth Science or Physics-related field.Strong track record of the use and development of numerical subsurface flow modelling tools and techniques, as applied to hydrogeological and/or reservoir engineering applications.Experience of scripting languages such as (ideally) Python, or similar (e.g. R, Matlab).Ability to demonstrate a resourceful approach to work and working independently, displaying strong initiative and decision-making skills.Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to both absorb and impart technical concepts and information effectively.Excellent scientific writing ability, with experience of producing high-quality technical reports and scientific papers.Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all.
