Job Details-Senior Pricing Manager
Pricing teams at Hastings are responsible for developing and delivering Hastings' pricing strategies across two key areas:

  • Retail Pricing focuses on developing the street pricing strategy to drive commercial performance while ensuring fair customer outcomes.
  • Risk Pricing focuses on technical pricing and ensuring adequate prices are charged. It analyses risk factors and builds risk models to calculate risk-based prices and loadings that accurately reflect the underlying risk exposure.


Pricing teams use advanced data science techniques like machine learning and optimization to understand customer behaviour and market dynamics. They combine expertise across pricing, data science, analytics and actuarial disciplines to set prices that balance commercial objectives with risk management principles.
Senior Pricing Managers are key members of pricing leadership. They lead the pricing managers, analysts and data scientists ensuring smooth delivery of pricing processes and initiatives, while helping set the overall strategic agenda in collaboration with senior stakeholders.
Accountabilities

  • Setting the overall direction for pricing, planning workstreams, managing priorities
  • Building relationships with stakeholders to align pricing capabilities with business objectives
  • Leading enhancements to pricing models, rating algorithms and/or optimisation
  • Reviewing all pricing outputs and loadings to ensure standards are met
  • Staying current on industry trends to guide the pricing strategy
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance and treating customers fairly
  • Fostering a culture that balances commercial versus risk management principles
  • Conducting in-depth analyses of pricing dynamics, customer mix, and behaviour patterns to identify opportunities.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including underwriting, retail pricing, telematics, fraud and the experimental pricing
  • Communicating complex pricing insights and recommendations to senior leadership, supporting strategic decision-making processes.
  • Fostering a data-driven culture within the pricing team and across the organisation, promoting the use of advanced analytical techniques and tools.
  • Mentoring and developing the pricing team, ensuring continuous learning and upskilling in data analysis and pricing methodologies


To achieve this you will need to:

  • Be a fast learner to understand our business, its value drivers and the wider industry context
  • Have a customer focus to both spot profit opportunities and do the right thing
  • Think strategically about driving the business forward with data-led insight and approaches
  • Enthuse and engage our stakeholders to ensure they are as excited about pricing as we are
  • Embrace flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and get the best out of a diverse team


Skills we would love you to have

  • Degree in a numerical discipline (e.g. mathematics, sciences, engineering, computing)
  • Experience managing a pricing or analytical team
  • Strong stakeholder management experience within a fast-paced environment
  • Great communication skills with the ability to flex between technical and non-technical
  • SQL and experience working with large or complex datasets
  • R/Python/Matlab or coding statistical methods in other languages
  • Knowledge of statistical and/or machine learning modelling techniques


Desirable

  • Thinking and acting strategically to drive positive change
  • Insurance industry experience or actuarial qualification
  • Experience with Radar, Earnix or other specialist pricing software
  • Familiarity with deploying code and models into production environments
  • Working in a regulated industry and familiarity with governance processes

Salary- Attractive salary based on experience + car allowance (pay reviews also completed each year)
