At Samsung Research UK (SRUK), we’re at the forefront of innovation, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in AI for mobile and beyond. We’re looking for an exceptional Senior ML Research Engineer to join our dynamic team and help us develop groundbreaking technologies that will shape the future of Samsung devices and services.


This role is available on a permanent basis, but we are also open to hiring a contractor for an initial 6‑month period, working via agency. The role is inside IR35.


What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the research, design, and development of cutting‑edge AI algorithms and models for audio and speech processing.
  • Translate complex research ideas into real‑world, production‑ready solutions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and engineers to drive innovation.
  • Develop scalable software solutions for deployment on Samsung’s flagship mobile devices.
  • Own and deliver significant components of complex research projects from concept to completion.
  • Build internal tools and infrastructure to support our AI research and development efforts.

Who You Are:

  • Education: MSc/PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Expertise: Deep understanding of machine learning and deep learning fundamentals, with a strong focus on audio/speech processing (speech recognition, enhancement, text‑to‑speech).
  • Experience: Professional software development experience with Python (C++, Java, or Kotlin is a plus).
  • Skills: Proficiency with TensorFlow or PyTorch, solid knowledge of software engineering principles (Git, CI/CD pipelines, agile methodologies), and excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Impact: Proven ability to translate research ideas into practical, production‑ready solutions.
  • Experience with generative AI in audio/speech technologies.
  • A strong publication record in top‑tier conferences/journals (ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, SysML, INTERSPEECH, ICASSP, IEEE/ACM TASLP, IEEE TPAMI, JMLR).
  • Experience with open‑source speech toolkits (Hugging Face, Kaldi).
  • Experience deploying AI models on Android platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
