Role: Senior Data EngineerSalary/Rate: £600-700 per day inside IR35 Location: hybrid multiple locations available, 2 days on siteContract Duration: 4 months, potential to extend

We are currently looking for a Senior Data Engineer for our government client. This Senior Data Engineer role is hybrid, based between 2 days per week on site and the remainder of the week working remotely. Office locations include most major towns, with London being a preference.

The contract for the Senior Data Engineer position is for 4-months with potential to extend, operating inside IR35.

Security Clearance: Security Check ("SC Clearance")

This role is inside IR35 - Due to the service of the role, it will now be based on an Umbrella solution.

Essential Skills/experience Required

  • Strong experience designing, building and maintaining data pipelines using modern, cloud-based tools and practices
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data engineering tasks
  • Experience with DBT and a good understanding of data modelling approaches (e.g. star schema, dimensional modelling)
  • Familiarity with Airflow or similar orchestration tools
  • Comfortable working with AWS services such as Glue and S3, or equivalent cloud infrastructure
  • Experience using version control and CI/CD tools like Git and GitHub Actions
  • Confident working independently and taking ownership of problems and solutions
  • Comfortable engaging directly with stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, to understand needs, share ideas and shape solutions
  • Willingness to work closely with users, gather feedback, and iterate quickly to improve products and data quality
  • Adaptable, curious, and open to experimenting with new tools, techniques and ways of working, including AI coding assistants and lean, cross-functional approaches

Role/responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teams across performance, data, digital, and portfolio functions to enhance data collection, structuring, and usage.
  • Champion data-driven decision-making.
  • Promote integrated leadership through improved data practices.
  • Contribute to solving the challenge of inconsistent performance metrics across the organisation.
  • Support the development of a modern, user-focused framework for measuring performance and organisational health, covering areas such as delivery, finance, people, risk, and user satisfaction.
  • Help build and refine a dashboard for senior leaders to visualise key metrics and support collective decision-making, using a flexible, code-first approach, applying lean, cross-functional, and product operating model principles.
  • Embed AI-native workflows using tools like ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, and agentic assistants to enhance digital delivery.
  • Strengthen data foundations by reviewing and modernising existing data pipelines, replacing manual processes with automated solutions via the Analytical Platform.
  • Reduce the burden on teams for data collection and sharing by retrieving more data from source systems.
  • Use dashboards not just for reporting, but as tools to highlight data issues, surface priorities, and drive continuous improvement.
