The Data and AI team is made up of subject matter experts that work to the Digital Capability Lead Director and provides evidence and insight to support the work of the broader department. Working together or independently the Senior Data Science Consultant is expected to work, onsite and remotely, with our clients to help them resolve their most complex and exciting challenges.

Job Overview / Introduction

The Senior Data Science Consultant reports to a manager and is responsible for the provision of independent expert advice to help identify and solve data and digital challenges, increase value, and maximise business efficiency and profitability. Using established processes whilst working with client’s senior leadership and support staff, the senior consultant will assist in the creation of digital strategies, processes optimisation and identifying technology solutions to meet client needs.


Squarcle consultants work across both project delivery, business and product development:



  • Delivery: Squarcle Senior Consultants work to supply solutions to client’s changing business needs. The scope of engagements is highly variable and can include core strategy development, large‑scale implementation, process optimisation, change management, data analysis, data modelling, solution development and innovative technology introduction.
  • Business development: Squarcle places an emphasis on leading sector thinking in the development of the latest ideas. This can include producing white papers and internal research on relevant changes occurring in the sector and the impact on the general economy.

Product Development. Squarcle is passionate about investing in and developing its own products. This can include conceptualising, designing, and creating cutting‑edge products that align with the business’s strategic vision, meet customer needs, and drive sustainable growth in the market.


Primary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Analyse and interpret complex datasets to extract meaningful insights and patterns.
  • Design and implement machine learning models and algorithms for predictive and prescriptive analytics. Develop data‑driven solutions to address business challenges and support decision‑making processes.
  • Clean, transform, and preprocess data to ensure data quality and suitability for analysis.
  • Conduct statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to validate findings and support data‑driven recommendations.
  • Explore and utilise advanced analytical techniques, such as deep learning and natural language processing, when appropriate. Participate in the development and deployment of AI and ML‑based applications and products.
  • Work with clients to understand their business problem, their technology landscape and digital maturity.
  • Facilitate discussions and discovery workshops to understand the As‑Is state and any existing digital change activity already underway.
  • Work with client teams to translate the business problem into business, user and solution requirements for the To‑Be state and define improvement actions.
  • Produce project plans, designs and prototype solutions to demonstrate early benefit and value.
  • Work in an Agile manner, collaborating closely with clients and colleagues to iteratively refine and deliver the solution within the Discovery – Alpha – Beta – Live delivery model aligned to GDS.
  • Ensure appropriate Agile ceremonies are performed and necessary information (e.g. progress, releases, risks, issues) is shared with the project manager and other stakeholders.
  • Work effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution.
  • Assist the Head of Digital in developing Squarcle’s Technology and Digital capabilities.
  • Conduct performance reviews and annual appraisals for all direct reports.
  • Lead, coach and mentor team members.

Secondary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Commit to continuous development by supporting the organisation of team events, training sessions and recruitment activities.
  • Carry out other duties as specified by the Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Essential)

  • Degree level or above qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Scientific or a related analytical or technical field.
  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Python programming skills and proficiency with essential libraries, e.g. pandas, numpy, pytorch.
  • Strong data modelling and analysis skills.
  • Traditional machine learning experience (e.g. regression, clustering, classification).
  • Software development best practices.
  • Version control practices with Git.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving skills – an analytical, innovative, and creative mindset.
  • Well‑developed core consulting skills e.g. research, analysis, presentation, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent inter‑personal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to be self‑directed and be an independent contributor to the team.
  • Intellectual curiosity, exceptional client service, and a strong work ethic.
  • A team player dedicated to contributing toward the outcome desired by the team.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances and to think creatively to solve client issues.
  • Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is a security check.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Desirable)

  • AI software development experience, e.g. genAI / LLM applications.
  • Palantir Foundry experience.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained, or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining SC security clearance can be a lengthy process, and we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made if the necessary security clearance isn’t obtained within 6 months.
