Our world-class scientists and staff collaborate on vital research to help prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, infectious diseases and neurodegenerative conditions.  In this role you will provide data analysis as part of the Bioinformatics & Biostatistics platform to support to the UCLH-Francis Crick Institute clinical Legacy study , working within UKRI supported PROVAC consortium in partnership with the project leads at the University of Cambridge. You will support analysis of metadata and new experimental data within the PROVAC centralised data repository. Utilising a number of programming, statistical and data analysis techniques, you will analyse data from participants in the UCLH-Crick Legacy study, where their clinical data is linked to a variety of measurements produced by technologies such as the latest high throughput genomic technologies and multi-parameter serological data. As a Senior Biostatistician in the Bioinformatics & Biostatistics platform at the Crick, you will: Work collaboratively across the PROVAC collaboration to co-design experiments, formulate analysis plans and interpret results. Perform standard and advanced analyses of high-dimensional, data-intensive and complex research questions across the biomedical research spectrum using bioinformatics, biostatistics, machine learning and AI approaches. Empower biologists to understand their datasets, using our broad training portfolio to enable data curiosity and develop analytical skills. Design innovative approaches for recurrent and novel projects, and deploy corresponding tools internally, across PROVAC and beyond. mathematics, biostatistics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, or related fields. Veterans in Machine Learning: A Military‑to‑Civilian Pathway into AI Careers

Introduction Artificial intelligence is no longer relegated to sci‑fi films—it underpins battlefield decision‑support, fraud detection, and even supermarket logistics. The UK Government’s 2025 AI Sector Deal forecasts an additional £200 billion in GDP by 2030, with machine‑learning (ML) engineers cited as the nation’s second most in‑demand tech role (Tech Nation 2024). The Ministry of Defence’s Defence AI Strategy echoes that urgency, earmarking £1.6 billion for FY 2025–28 to embed ML into planning, logistics, and autonomous systems. If you have ever tuned a radar filter, plotted artillery trajectories, or sifted sensor data for actionable intel, you have already worked with statistical modelling—the backbone of machine learning. This guide shows UK veterans how to reframe military experience for ML roles, leverage MoD transition funding, and land high‑impact positions building the models shaping tomorrow’s defence and commercial landscapes.
