Job Description
We’re recruiting for a Qualified Actuary to join our Group Internal Audit function as a Senior Audit Manager.
In this role you will support the Audit Director by designing, driving and delivering a portfolio of high-quality risk-based audit services across both our Institutional Retirement and Group Finance Business Units.
You will also assist with managing key Group Internal Audit stakeholders by providing them with independent opinions and assurances on the strength of our control framework and the effectiveness of our business risk management.
This a hybrid working opportunity, which means that you can work flexibly between our London Office and your home, to find a work-life balance that works for you.
What you'll be doing:
- Conducting annual risk assessments and half year refreshes, across areas of the audit universe as agreed with the Audit Director. These will be aligned to the wider Group Internal Audit approach, and you will proactively collaborate with the Audit Director in the development and update of the annual audit plan for those areas.
- Executing the risk-based audit plan as allocated by the Audit Director on time and to agreed budgets, ensuring “terms of reference” focus audit activity on the areas of most significant business risk.
- Managing the workload of assigned audit resources in collaboration with other Senior Audit Managers (where applicable) and monitoring the quality of audit files to ensure that all audit work complies with Group Internal Audit methodology and standards.
- Identifying where technology such as data analytics, process mining or machine learning could be used to improve the insight and/or efficiency of current audit work, including planning and leading the execution of this work. You will also actively engage in wider Group Internal Audit improvement projects that are aligned to the longer-term vision of Group Internal Audit.
- Communicating audit results to relevant management/stakeholders and agreeing commercially viable audit recommendations and business actions to address areas of risk and failures within the control framework. This will include challenging management to agree to ambitious but achievable closure dates for issues and actively tracking the agreed actions to completion with a strong focus on timely resolution of risks.
- Developing and executing a liaison plan with key internal and external stakeholders, to communicate relevant audit results, maintain focus on issue closures and ensure that business plans, initiatives and emerging risks are incorporated within Group Internal Audit’s risk assessment and audit plans, where appropriate.
- Monitoring and anticipating regulatory and business change using divisional audit watch lists to assess the potential impact and propose exceptional audits/other assurance responses as required.
- Providing input to Group Internal Audit commentary to the Group Audit Committee, Executive Management, relevant business division Boards and Risk & Compliance Committees, on significant areas of concern and the remedial actions required to mitigate risk to the Group.
- Supporting the development of junior team members through coaching within audits and providing constructive feedback.
- Ensuring that the principles of treating customers fairly (TCF) are embedded into management practices, so that identified risks recognise relevant TCF outcomes, and business processes and internal controls are structured and performed in a way that effectively delivers the required TCF outcomes.
Qualifications
Who we're looking for:
- A Qualified Actuary with demonstrable post-qualification experience.
- A strong understanding of internal risk and control frameworks, Internal Audit standards, Financial Services Code and broader principles/practices of auditing.
- A strong understanding of risk management principles and practices including Conduct and Prudential Regulatory Risk.
- A strong understanding of Solvency II, actuarial models and model risk, assumption setting, reinsurance etc.
- Experience supporting the overall capabilities of the divisional audit team (e.g. managing internal audit and assurance delivery within a financial services context/managing actuarial delivery across relevant audit areas).
- Ability to utilise and leverage available internal audit technology (such as data analytics) to further enhance our audit capabilities.
- Experience of directing and delivering a programme of audits/leading technical or complex reviews and providing overall quality control.
- Ability to effectively advise and coach Internal Audit Managers on best practice audit delivery
