Role

We use a combination of advanced live cell imaging microscopy approaches together with machine learning to understand and predict cell behaviour in heterogeneous populations, with a current focus on breast cancer cells and explant cultures. In this new project, funded by the Wellcome Trust, we will build on our existing CellPhe bioimage analysis tool to develop capability with more complex datasets from different imaging platforms. The successful candidate will benefit from a highly collaborative programme with international academic and industrial partners. The post holder will be expected to balance driving their independent research project alongside managing complex imaging datasets for a longitudinal project with a long-term view to research. They will also work closely with other lab members and researchers across the institute and take an active role in supervising students and developing potential new areas of research.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or be near completion) in a biomedical sciences discipline (preferred, not essential), or equivalent experience in cell biology and/or image analysis. Experience in cell/tissue culture and machine learning/coding techniques is desirable. Candidates with experience in using advanced microscopy, and/or experience in signal processing of data/programming scripts for data analysis are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must have experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research, writing up research work for publication and a willingness to contribute to the process of securing future research funding.

The post is full time on a fixed term basis of 18 months funded by the Wellcome Trust.
