Position
Quality Engineer to ensure the quality, reliability, and robustness ofdata engineering and platform engineering pipelineswithin theGroup Data Platform.

Summary of the Role
Howden Group Services is expanding itsGroup Data Platform teamand is looking for aQuality Engineerto supportdata quality assurance, test automation, and validation frameworksacrossdata engineeringandplatform engineeringteams. The ideal candidate will haveexperience in testing data pipelines, automation frameworks, and CI/CD practices, with a focus onensuring data integrity, accuracy, and reliability.

This role requires ananalytical and detail-orientedindividual who can work closely with engineers toembed quality-first principles, ensuring thatdata pipelines and platform componentsarethoroughly tested and meet business requirements. The successful candidate will helpdevelop automated testing frameworks, define testing standards, and validate data engineering workflows.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:

  1. Support the development and executionof aquality assurance strategyfordata engineering and platform engineering pipelines.
  2. Develop and execute test casesfordata pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and data transformations.
  3. Assist in building and maintainingautomateddata validation and pipeline testing frameworks.
  4. Validate infrastructure and platform-level components, includingCI/CD pipelines and cloud-based data services.
  5. Collaborate with data engineers, platform engineers, and DevOps teamstoensure quality is embedded throughout development.
  6. Monitor and report on key quality metrics, identifying and addressing issues proactively.
  7. Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and compliance requirements.
  8. Work with business stakeholdersto understand requirements and contribute to effective testing strategies.
  9. Support the adoption of best practicesforunit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and performance testingin a data environment.

Requirements
Candidates should have:

  1. 3+ years of experienceindata quality engineering, software testing, or test automation.
  2. Familiarity with testing data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and big data solutions.
  3. Experience with cloud-based data platforms, preferablyAzure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, or Synapse Analytics.
  4. Basic experience with test automation frameworks(e.g., PyTest, Great Expectations, DBT tests, or similar).
  5. Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages(e.g., Python, Scala) for test automation.
  6. Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps practices, with exposure toAzure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  7. Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
  8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  9. Ability to collaborate effectivelywith engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
  10. Experience working with infrastructure testing(e.g., Terraform validation, cloud monitoring) (preferred).
  11. Experience in the insurance or financial industry(not essential, but preferred).
