Job Title: Principal Data Analyst

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Edinburgh or Glasgow or Alderley Park (Wilmslow)

Working style: Hybrid 50% home/office based

 

 

 

 

We are growing our Data & AI Strategy Analysis practice, and we are looking for a Principal Data Analyst to join our Data & AI Strategy team to explore strategic opportunities for value from data and AI.

 

As an insight-led, modern mutual, we are driven to focus on the most impactful things that we can do to improve financial resilience for millions of customers, and in playing our part in moving fairly to a sustainable world. You’ll lead a small team investigating and qualifying those opportunities that will really shift the dial on enabling us to deliver more value for customers and clients. You’ll enjoy the journey from uncovering and profiling new value pools and getting hands on with data analysis to identify and prioritise strategic opportunities for value.

 

In the past 2 years we have deployed a shiny, new modern tech stack and invested in a new Data & AI Academy so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to explore new technologies and keep up to date with the latest techniques. 

 

To be successful, you’ll need strong analytical skills to identify key value drivers and model potential scenarios, and be familiar with statistical methods to ensure that we are robust and credible in our efforts to take an insight-led approach to inform our decision making at a strategic level.  

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Analyse relevant data to uncover trends, patterns, and insights that can inform strategic decision-making, prioritisation and increase our conviction in attainable value. 
  • Collaborate with senior business stakeholders and technical subject matter experts to explore strategic opportunities for value
  • Effective data storytelling, by nailing presentation of your findings in the form of actionable insights for senior leaders in a clear and concise manner to support strategic decision-making which will deliver real change.  
  • Liaise with subject matter experts to identify data that is important and collaborate with colleagues / stakeholders to uncover key insights and explore feasibility to qualify opportunities and clarify key factors to inform effective approaches to deliver value. 
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy in all analysis, recommendations and evaluations.  

 

 

 

Experience: 

  • An inquisitive mind, constantly looking at opportunities with curiosity, and confident in handling complexity and ambiguity  
  • Analytical thinker with effective problem structuring skills to find a way to turn business questions into data questions that we can research through our data to inform strategic decision-making 
  • Demonstrable experience of having delivered actionable insight that led to significant value creation
  • Skilled and experienced in statistical analysis and modelling, proficient in data wrangling and data engineering
  • Experienced in relevant data technologies such as Azure, DataBricks, PowerBI, and coding languages such as Python, SQL ideally experience using Git to ensure a robust, versioned and traceable codebase 
  • Strong influencing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex messages and concepts to non-technical stakeholders 
  • Willing to embrace new opportunities to learn, keen to champion and embrace opportunities for innovation  
  • Desirable - an understanding and experience of behavioural science techniques 
  • Desirable – motivation to coach and develop data analysis skills in others  
  • Desirable – people management experience
