Machine Learning Engineer - Defence Tech Start Up - Cambridge

A UK-based deep defence-tech startup backed by Entrepreneur First, are looking for a Senior ML Engineer to join their Core ML team in Cambridge.

What you can expect:

  • Develop planning & estimation algorithms for real-world UxVs
  • Write robust ML software in Python & C++ for field deployment
  • Work with high-fidelity simulation (Isaac Sim) and real-world aerial platforms
  • Design & validate sensor fusion and state estimation pipelines
  • Directly contribute to advancing our system toward TRL 7

What we’re looking for:

  • MSc/PhD in ML, Robotics, or a related field
  • 5+ years writing production-quality code in Python and C++
  • Strong background in probabilistic ML, Bayesian inference, Gaussian Processes, or RL
  • Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Skilled in testing, CI/CD, and collaborative software development

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with ROS 2, DDS, or real-world deployment on UAVs/UGVs
  • Deep understanding of sensor fusion and filters like EKF
  • Hands-on with multi-agent RL or planning under uncertainty
  • Familiarity with real-time systems and comms latency challenges
