Opportunity

Relation has a unique opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join an interdisciplinary, collaborative team of experimental and computational drug discovery researchers at our state-of-the-art integrated wet and dry functional genomics lab in London.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to contribute to our cutting-edge discovery and development in the Innovation Lab team. The Innovation Lab develops discovery tools including novel single-cell, spatial transcriptomics assays and cellular models that feed into the drug discovery endeavors at Relation.

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Innovation Lab in London. In this role, you will maintain and manage our iPSC cell models, as well as work with state-of-the-art single-cell technologies. As part of our interdisciplinary team, you'll collaborate closely with both experimental and computational scientists, contributing directly to our mission of developing transformational medicines. This position offers unique exposure to novel cellular models and advanced genomic technologies, making it ideal for a technically skilled individual passionate about advancing therapeutic discoveries.

Your responsibilities

  • Maintain and characterize induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines, including routine culture, passaging and quality control assessments to ensure optimal cell health and experimental readiness.
  • Execute CRISPR gene editing protocols, transfection of iPSC lines, perform molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA extraction, and sequence analysis to verify successful gene modifications and maintain detailed documentation of experimental procedures.
  • Establish and maintain cryopreserved cell banks, including proper labeling, tracking, and database management of all cell line variants, recording to the highest standard in an electronic LIMS system.
  • Work effectively as part of the lab team, efficiently communicating results.
  • Support laboratory housekeeping activities to ensure the efficient running of the lab.

Professionally, you have

  • A MSc or BSc in a life-sciences or related area with at least two years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Experience in tissue culture, including the maintenance of human iPSC.
  • Demonstrated expertise in basic molecular biology methods.
  • Strong documentation skills and experience with electronic laboratory information management systems.

Desirable knowledge/experience

  • Familiarity with stem cell characterization technologies such as fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACs) or immunofluorescence (IF).
  • Prior experience with CRISPR-Cas9 or other genome editing technologies in mammalian cells.
  • Experience in single cell RNA-seq and/or NGS technologies.

Personally, you are

  • Inclusive leader and team player.
  • Clear communicator.
  • Driven by impact.
  • Humble and hungry to learn.
  • Motivated and curious.
  • Passionate about making a difference in patients’ lives.

Join us in this exciting role, where your contributions will directly impact advancing our understanding of genetics and disease risk, supporting our mission to deliver transformative medicines to patients. Together, we’re not just conducting research—we’re setting new standards in the fields of machine learning and genetics. The patient is waiting!

How to Find Hidden Machine Learning Jobs in the UK Using Professional Bodies like BCS, Turing Society & More

Machine learning (ML) continues to transform sectors across the UK—from fintech and retail to healthtech and autonomous systems. But while the demand for ML engineers, researchers, and applied scientists is growing, many of the best opportunities are never posted on traditional job boards. So, where do you find them? The answer lies in professional bodies, academic-industry networks, and tight-knit ML communities. In this guide, we’ll show you how to uncover hidden machine learning jobs in the UK by engaging with groups like the BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT), Turing Society, Alan Turing Institute, and others. We’ll explore how to use member directories, CPD events, SIGs (Special Interest Groups), and community projects to build connections, gain early access to job leads, and raise your professional profile in the ML ecosystem.

How to Get a Better Machine Learning Job After a Lay-Off or Redundancy

Redundancy in machine learning can feel especially frustrating when your role was technically advanced, strategically important, or AI-facing. But the UK still has strong demand for machine learning professionals across fintech, healthtech, retail, cybersecurity, autonomous systems, and generative AI. Whether you're a research-oriented ML engineer, production-focused MLOps developer, or applied scientist, this guide is designed to help you bounce back from redundancy and find a better opportunity that suits your goals.

Machine Learning Jobs Salary Calculator 2025: Figure Out Your True Worth in Seconds

Why last year’s pay survey is useless for UK ML professionals today Ask a Machine Learning Engineer wrangling transformer checkpoints, an MLOps Lead firefighting drift alarms, or a Research Scientist training diffusion models at 3 a.m.: “Am I earning what I deserve?” The honest answer changes monthly. A single OpenAI model drop doubles GPU demand, healthcare regulators release fresh explainability guidance, & a fintech unicorn pays six figures for vector‑search expertise. Each shock nudges salary bands. Any PDF salary guide printed in 2024 now looks like an outdated Jupyter notebook—missing the gen‑AI tsunami, the surge in edge inference, & the UK’s new Responsible‑AI framework. To give ML professionals an accurate benchmark, MachineLearningJobs.co.uk distilled a transparent, three‑factor formula that estimates a realistic 2025 salary in under a minute. Feed in your discipline, UK region, & seniority; you’ll receive a defensible figure—no stale averages, no guesswork. This article unpacks the formula, highlights the forces driving ML pay skyward, & offers five practical moves to boost your value inside the next ninety days.
