Admiral Money is an exciting division of Admiral Group. We have the freedom and innovation of a small start up with the security of a large parent company, Admiral.

The journey started when we launched unsecured personal loans in June . We went on to be the first direct to consumer car finance provider in December . Since then, we have gone from strength to strength and have some exciting plans for the future. 

We are relaunching our car finance product later this year and are looking for someone who is keen to learn, excited about getting stuck in and are ready for a challenge to help us to achieve our aim of creating a special lending business for our customers.

The Role

The lifeblood of Admiral Money is data, making this role an exciting opportunity to do work that has a meaningful impact in enabling the core objectives of the business. In short: we believe the right use, of the right data, at the right time, allows us to best understand and serve Our customers, grow the business, identify opportunity and create a competitive edge.

To enable this, we need to build reliable, well-governed systems to pull data from all over the business and provide access it in our data warehouse in a simple, understandable and easy-to-consume manner. Your role as a Junior Data Engineer will involve building these pipelines and striving to simplify and extend the functionality of our data platform. 

Key Responsibilities

As part of the Engineering team in the Data Platform function, you will:

Perform a key role working with our Data & Analytics engineers to understand what data is needed to support the business. This key process will inform accurate design and build requirements to; collect the data; process the data; and provide the data for consumption.  Act as a data champion to the business, getting people excited by how data can support them to make better decisions and accelerating the success that these decisions drive.  Keep usability and trust at the heart of our data platform. We’re not just squirreling data away into a big data store – we’re building a data platform to enable people to easily access the right data, at the right time, whilst ensuring the data is accurate and meeting best governance practices.  You will understand the importance of good quality data and data management practices.  Write code! This is as much a software engineering role as it is a data role. We’re building the platform to support the business. You’ll be writing code and setting up infrastructure to underpin all our pipelines, developing our deployment pipeline, and working on tooling for engineering, the analytics community and the rest of the business. 

Requirements

Essential

Application of Python and SQL coding skills  Strong problem-solving ability  Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills  Understanding of data warehousing best practices 

Desirable

Degree in Computer Science  Understanding of financial services  Experience of creating and using CI/CD pipelines  AWS/ Cloud provider experience (particularly with Redshift)  Experience of working in some form of Agile
