The construction industry, a $15 trillion behemoth, is undergoing a digital transformation. We're seeking a passionate and innovative intern to explore how the latest advancements in AI and Computer Vision can be leveraged to improve this industry.

This internship will focus on developing and refining a Construction Digital Twin, a cutting-edge virtual representation of construction sites that integrates diverse data sources (e.g., 3D scans, sensor data, drone footage, BIM) and utilizes AI/ML to provide actionable insights.

As an intern with Autodesk Research, you will be part of a global team of researchers specializing in robotics, software engineering, and AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction). You'll have the opportunity to work on research projects that have a tangible influence on the goals of the organization and the company at large.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in Developing and Refining Digital Twin Models: Contribute to the creation and optimization of digital twin models that represent construction sites
  • Research AI/ML Model Development: Explore and experiment with AI/ML models (e.g., CNNs, LSTMs) for tasks such as object detection and data analysis
  • Investigate Computer Vision Techniques: Study and implement Computer Vision techniques like object detection and photogrammetry
  • Conduct and Present Research: Perform research on cutting-edge AI/ML techniques for construction applications and present your findings to the team. Contribute to reports or academic papers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Construction, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong Computer Science (CS) fundamentals, with proficiency in Python for automation and data processing
  • Experience with Computer Vision tools (e.g., YOLO, Segment Anything, Detectron2) for object detection, segmentation, and video/image analysis
  • Understanding of AI/ML concepts, with hands-on experience in training and fine-tuning models using frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Experience with Generative AI tools such as GPT, DALL-E, Gemini, and a solid understanding of underlying Machine Learning pipelines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Creative, flexible, and enjoy working with new technology
