DENSO Automotive UK Ltd is based in the heart of the UK automotive industry and provides development engineering and account management for a number of car makers.

Put your engineering Degree to work at DENSO. As a new graduate, you will collaborate with experienced engineers on live Off-Highway and Heavy-Duty common rail diesel system development programs, contributing to the successful delivery of products to our global customers.

We are looking for candidates with:

Bachelors or Masters Degree from an accredited university in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering.

Key relevant modules: Engineering design, Solid mechanics and dynamics, Fluid dynamics, Thermodynamics, Materials, Instrumentation and Control.

Organisation in Coventry, UK

Coventry Engineering Centre has sole responsibility for design, validation and productionisation of FIE components for customers across Europe (CAT, Cummins, Volvo Truck, Volvo PENTA, MAN, Kohler, GM).

The organisation splits into 4 key groups:

  1. Application customer support functions, with small teams spread across Europe.
  2. System team which help support performance of the system (i.e. rail pressure and injector calibration).
  3. Component Engineers who ensure the components design and customers use of the components is suitable to achieve the customer’s requirements (performance, life, etc).
  4. Test team who are manage engineering responsible activities in our Test Facilities.

The teams work in close collaboration, in order to complete validation / investigate and solve customer issues.

In this role you will experience product design, simulation and testing. It will be necessary to iterate designs as the customer develops their engine, input into change point analysis to determine necessary validation, investigate returned components, make judgement on customer validation and take responsibility to create material to show why we have confidence to release parts to production.

DENSO has invested heavily in diesel and has 3 test rigs (to simulate engine and measure detailed component shot performance), as well as a component inspection laboratory (to measure wear and deterioration of returned components).

DENSO sees a strong future still in diesel for Off Highway and heavy-Duty applications.

Main Purpose of the Job

Hardware support, including design of customer application and supporting returned parts investigation for EU/Global Diesel customers.

Main Tasks of the Job

Responsibility for the design, testing and analysis of parts of the Diesel FiE system. Responsibility includes discussion with the customer (e.g. understanding of customer validation results, presentation of results), component testing of injector pump and rail, analysis/judgement, discussion with component design team and reporting to customer.

DENSO is looking for a highly motivated and talented graduate engineer, with good theoretical knowledge and a strong desire to contribute to real world projects.

Specific Responsibilities

Personnel:Will be primarily working within the Component Design team, with the opportunity for placements in our other teams.

Resources:Will need to manage own output/testing to the right quality.

Planning:Needs to be able to prioritise activities and be flexible in approach making sure that all activity is aligned to the higher-level purpose.

Decisions:Needs to be able to deliver required output, determined through alignment with team leader, with the minimum of input (good ownership). Needs to be proactive in reporting, exhibiting good communication to demonstrate alignment.

Qualifications

Personal Attributes

  • Good Degree or Equivalent, (2:1 or higher) in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • Clear thinker, good communicator and pro-active attitude. Good at logical analysis of data and problem solving.
  • Demonstrates clear ownership of task. Able to build relationships internally / externally.
  • Experience using project management software (e.g. Confluence), MS Office, Matlab/Simulink.

Additional Information

Working Conditions

Based at the Powertrain Engineering office in Coventry working in an open-plan office with access to laboratory, chassis dyno and engine test bed/rig facilities. Potential of travel to customer sites (with potentially extended visits) and occasional travel to other DENSO offices (including Hungary and Japan).

Ability to work additional hours as required. Ability to work offsite at customer / DENSO sites when requested.
