Job summary

Health Innovation KSS areseeking to appoint a Director of Digital Data & AI to help HealthInnovation KSS become a leader in Digital, Data & AI innovation across theregion and nationally.

Main duties of the job

You will be instrumentalin growing our work with the SDE (Secure Data Environment) as well as respondingto demand from systems partners to help them grow their understanding and usageof digital and AI technologies in a responsible fashion.

Kent Surrey Sussex AHSN (trading as Health Innovation KSS) is one of 15 HINs set up by NHS England in 2013 and relicensed from April 2018 to operate as the key innovation arm of the NHS.

Covering an area with a population of million people, and a health and social care workforce of over 200,000 people, we seek to understand the needs of our health system and be well placed to broker innovative solutions. Health Innovation KSS is commissioned by the Office for Life Sciences (OLS), NHS England and NHS Improvement, to deliver a programme of work which underpins the acceleration, creation and adoption of health innovations. Our aim; to deliver improved outcomes for the population and generating economic growth, regionally and nationally with helping to enable companies/innovators to scale and create new jobs and investment.

Role:DirectorDigital Data & AI

Salary:Circa £90,000 at full-time / hrsper week equivalent salary

Reports to:Chief Commercial Officer

Hybrid/remote roleHealth InnovationKSSs primary office is in West Sussex, with other satellite offices in EastSussex and Surrey.The successful candidate is expected to be based inor be able to attend meetings in the Southeast region and London.

Keyresponsibilities of the role

To be a champion/expert in Digital data and AI both internally and externally leveraging wider team members in systems as well as across other parts of Health Innovation KSS and embed greater knowledge and awareness generally. The position will be critical to the future, successful trajectory of the company and will be required to cover the following:StrategicPlanning: Develop andimplement a comprehensive digital, data and AI strategy that aligns with theorganisations goals and objectives. Lead digital and data projects, prioritiserequirements, and generate funding. Ensure transparent communication with thesenior management team. To better market and promote theregions digital & data assets and knowledge locally andnationally/internationally to public/private sector organisations interestingin working with or utilising these assetsTechnologyOversight: Stay abreastof emerging digital technologies and AI trends, ensuring the organisationleverages cutting-edge tools and practices.ProjectManagement: Leaddigital transformation projects, including AI implementations, digitalmarketing initiatives, and data analytics efforts.TeamLeadership and Management:Manage, motivate, develop and mentor a team, including data analyst/scientistsand programme manager. To act as a figurehead and be responsible for presentingat external conferences and eventsBudgetManagement and Income Generation:Responsible for P&L, overseeing the budget for digital and AI initiatives,ensuring cost-effective solutions and ROI for technology projects.StakeholderCollaboration: Workclosely with other teams and stakeholders to understand their needs and ensuredigital and AI projects align with broader business objectives.DataManagement: Developstrategies for data collection, management, and analysis to drive businessinsights and decision-making.Complianceand Security: Ensuredigital and AI systems comply with relevant regulations and standards andmaintain robust security practices to protect data and technology assets.PerformanceMetrics: Establish andtrack KPIs to measure the effectiveness of digital and AI initiatives, adjustingas needed to achieve desired outcomes.Innovation and translational research:Foster a culture of innovation within the team and organisation, encouragingexperimentation with new technologies and approaches by working with thetranslational research team and academic partnersTrainingand Development:Provide ongoing education and training for staff on digital tools and AItechnologies to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to degree or advanced degree level in Business Management, computer science/data science/IT/digital health leadership or relevant subject Significant evidence of continuous professional development; record of CPD shows strong self-development ethos and learning from a broad range of interests

Desirable

Experience of MedTech/Health Tech industry and or the NHS

Strong understanding of the healthcare landscape, including market dynamics, regulatory environment, and reimbursement models. Proven track record of driving revenue growth, managing business development, and building strategic partnerships Experience in Digital Data & AI leadership roles, preferably within the healthcare or not-for-profit sector Strong understanding of digital and data technologies across external landscape High level experience in AI fundamentals and strong background in software development Experience of programme management and project oversight to include keeping multiple streams on track and ensuring delivery to time and budget. Demonstrable track record of leading high value and complex negotiations. Proven track record in leading initiatives, project management, managing cross-functional relationships and providing coaching and mentoring Experience of leading and delivering complex change and strategy development, programmes in politically sensitive and complex environments, in particular around digital transformation. A detailed knowledge of planning and performance management within health and/or social care. A substantial proven and successful track record of leadership and operational management, ideally within health or social care. Experience of leading the development and production of strategic plans through processes of engagement and involvement with a range of stakeholders. Experience of working effectively in a politically sensitive and complex environment. Experience of successfully managing teams and business functions effectively and efficiently to improve outcomes. Experience of leading in a visionary, dynamic, highly ambitious and fast paced organisational environment. Previous responsibility for a budget, involved in budget setting and a working knowledge of financial processes.
