Digital Business Data Analyst Industrial Placement

If you want work experience that really counts, consider a Digital Business Data Analyst placement with Phillips 66. We are now looking for a student who is working towards a degree in Data, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline to join us for a one‑year industrial placement in summer 2026.

You’ll be at the heart of our digital transformation—supporting live projects that use data analytics, automation, and AI to improve how the refinery runs day to day. Expect to work with tools like Microsoft Fabric, advanced data platforms, and AI frameworks. Your contributions will help automate processes, deploy AI safely and effectively, and generate insights that boost safety, reliability and performance.

You’ll also get hands‑on with agentic AI, using it to enrich data, summarise information, and guide workflows. Along the way, you’ll document real use cases and build practical experience. Working alongside skilled analysts and engineers, you will gain the kind of digital and data skills that are essential for a career in digital transformation.

Qualifications and Education

  • You are a motivated and proactive student who relishes a challenge, as well as having an interest in Data Analytics and its applications in industry.
  • Working towards a minimum 2:1 in Data, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline.
  • You will have an awareness of AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT or similar, and interest in agentic AI and responsible AI practices.
  • We really value previous work experience gained through industrial summer placements, internships and work experience. Make sure you tell us about this if you have it, particularly where you have developed your team‑working, organisation, and problem‑solving skills.

What are we looking for?

  • Good communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to real‑life challenges and create innovative solutions.
  • Analytical mindset and logical approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work in multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, APIs, low‑code automation, or basic data modelling (preferred).
  • Self‑organising to meet deadlines and deliver on projects.
  • Confidence to work on your own initiative.

What Phillips 66 can offer you

  • Opportunity to get real industrial experience with responsibility and accountability.
  • Ability to integrate and learn from experienced professionals.
  • Opportunity to become part of our Early Careers Network and take part in fun, informative and social activities.
  • Free daily lunch whilst working on site.
  • Free accommodation for the first 6 weeks of your placement so you can get to know the area and other students.
  • Free access to our onsite gym.
  • Competitive salary ranging between £26,000 and £29,500 per annum pro‑rata dependent on level of study completed and degree.

Our Process

In order to be considered for this position you must complete the entire application process, which includes answering all pre‑screening questions and providing your eSignature on or before the requisition closing date of 26th October 2025.

Applications will be reviewed periodically throughout the advertising window. However, we may invite candidates who pass our screening process to selection events on a first‑come, first‑served basis and making offers of employment to people who are successful at those events, therefore we advise that you apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Our assessment days will be held at our Humber Refinery week commencing 17th November 2025 and may include an overnight stay and dinner with experienced engineers (reasonable travel expenses and overnight accommodation will be provided).

The Humber Refinery is playing its part of the UK’s decarbonisation efforts. As a part of the UK Government’s net zero ambition, the Humber Refinery is on a journey to become the Refinery of the Future. With proposed plans for a number of projects including implementing a first‑of‑a‑kind FCC carbon capture project, the Humber Refinery is part of Humber Zero, a world‑scale concept to reduce UK industry carbon emissions, saving up to 8 million tonnes of CO₂ by 2030 from the Immingham industrial area.

On top of this, the Humber Refinery is the UK’s only refiner producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel at scale. It is also the only European facility producing battery anode coke, which forms a critical component for lithium‑ion batteries used in electrical vehicles and in consumer electronics. Our current production of battery anode coke is equivalent to placing 1.3 million EVs on the road every year, and we are developing multiple projects to expand this capability.

We are on an exciting journey, are you ready to join us?
