Purpose of the Role
Under the guidance of the Data Science Manager, the role holder will play an important position in delivering requirements for the Digital Trading Division, focussing on the delivery of Digital Follow data science use cases. Enhancing the data science capabilities around Digital Lead and Follow products to improve profitability and aid automation/efficiencies where possible.

Under the guidance of the Data Science Manager, they will assist in defining the strategic data requirements for delivery of data consumption use cases. The holder of this role will need to be comfortable interacting with all teams within the business to understand, capture, prioritise and document business and technical requirements leading to the deployment of automated, optimised and highly effective analytics solutions.

The holder of this role will have exceptional data science and programming skills with additional statistical, data manipulation and data analysis capability. This all-round knowledge will be key to ensure effective communication and collaboration with the data analytics and actuarial teams.
Duties and Accountabilities

  • Helps the Data Science Manager to deliver:

a)Digital Data cleansing (e.g. matching of premium and claims for digital business), mining and analysing internal databases and external Broker data.
b)Work alongside actuarial team to project data and analyse risk and class performance.
c)Using data science/AI techniques to automate and build out rule sets to grow and maximise profitability for Digital Follow opportunities.
d)Optimise portfolios through the regular data monitoring and analysis of external (and internal) data.
e)Work with data analysts to research, analyse, visualise and draw insights from external data sources using reports and dashboards.
f)Work with the data analysts supporting the Digital Trading division with proactive analytics and insights.

  • Work alongside actuarial team to contribute to Pricing and introduce new techniques to assess and advance the Pricing models.
  • Keep abreast of new and emerging data science techniques and advances in technology.
  • Helps the Data Science Manager to define strategic data requirements for delivery of Digital data consumption use cases:
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to identify, document, analyse, and prioritise data requirements.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination with the IT team and Data Engineer to design effective data solutions that meet business needs.
  • Create high-quality deliverables such as reporting specifications and visualisations.
  • Collaborate with the I.T Team to establish and maintain best practices and operational procedures for effective data management within the organisation.
  • Work with external third parties to discuss data findings and refine internal requirements.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

The successful candidate will have/be:

  • Expert in data science techniques
  • Advanced programming skills (Python an advantage)
  • Strong statistical, data manipulation and data analysis skills
  • Strong academic background
  • Demonstrable' actuarial and/or data experience preferably in a Lloyd's environment
  • Highly proficient in required IT packages
  • Good organisation and planning
  • Good written and face to face communication skills with people across the business (technical and non-technical)
  • Experience in a similar role supporting the development of data consumption use cases an advantage
  • Experience working with Azure data technology stack such as Data Factory, SQL, Synapse Analytics, PowerBI an advantage
