Job title: Data Scientist – AI/Machine Learning Location: Filton – We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role Salary: £46,288-£51,548 (dependent on skills and experience) What you’ll be doing: Undertake technical activities based on significant professional experience and requiring considerable original thought Producing outputs which would be consistently recognised as representing achievements of at least national standing Liaise with a range of customers / project managers in establishing requirements in order to fully understand and advise on the technical issues and project objectives. Contribute to the generation of technical strategies and plans within the group Prepare, document and deliver formal and informal technical reviews / presentations / reports / demonstrations to inform customers of project progress Represent and publicise the company externally, through publishing articles and speaking at conferences at national and international levels Work in accordance with the Air Safety, Health & Environment Policy, and local safety plans Your skills and experiences: Essential: Computer science degree or equivalent Ability to write robust code in Python Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as Keras or PyTorch Broad technical background in the field of AI and Machine Learning, in particular experience working on classification problems (e.g. Image/Acoustics/text/sentiment classification), Natural Language Processing, regression problems, Reinforcement Learning and Generative AI Experience with computer vision, pattern recognition, large-scale data mining, data analytics or autonomous systems You will have a strong background in working with large language models Desirable: Working in multi-disciplinary teams would be advantageous Benefits: You’ll receive benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance and a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan. Advanced Computing Technologies Group: The Advanced Computing Technologies Group is a specialized team focused on the research and technical leadership in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). As a Data Scientist in this group, you will utilise both new and existing technologies to develop cutting-edge capabilities, working both independently and collaboratively. Supervision of team members on specific tasks may be required, along with proactive involvement in activities aimed at securing business opportunities The group undertakes projects that involve creating machine learning algorithms for classification and regression problems, developing intelligent agents using reinforcement learning, and utilising Generative AI for training materials and tasks like data summarisation and information retrieval. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of various platforms, including Air, Land, and Maritime, the engineering lifecycle, and the potential of AI/ML technologies to revolutionise the design, development, testing, maintenance, and support of BAE Systems products Why BAE Systems?
