Data Science Manager – 12-Month FTC

London (Hybrid – 1 day per week in office)

We’re working with a fast-growing, consumer-facing tech business looking for a Data Science Manager to join their Customer Insights team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. There is potential for the role to become permanent, though this cannot be guaranteed.

In this role, you’ll lead a team of four data scientists focused on improving the customer experience across a dynamic online marketplace. You’ll work closely with teams across finance, shipping, and fraud, using data to uncover opportunities, optimise decision-making, and enhance how customers interact with the platform.

The ideal candidate will combine hands-on technical skills with proven experience leading and developing data science teams. You’ll be confident managing multiple stakeholders, driving insight generation, and ensuring the team’s work translates into measurable business impact.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading and mentoring a team of four data scientists.
  • Delivering data science projects that support customer and marketplace initiatives.
  • Applying advanced analytics and machine learning to areas such as customer behaviour, marketing performance, supply chain optimisation, or fraud detection.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with finance, operations, and product teams to ensure insights drive action.
  • Staying hands-on where needed to guide technical delivery and uphold quality.

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong background in data science, analytics, or machine learning within a commercial environment.
  • Previous experience managing or leading a team.
  • Ability to balance technical depth with strategic understanding of business objectives.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

Contract details:

  • 12-month FTC
  • Hybrid working – 1 day per week in the central London office
  • 1–2 month notice period maximum as need this person to start asap
