As we accelerate this transformation, we’re looking for a passionate and experiencedData Engineering Team Managerto lead one of our high-performing teams. You’ll lead a talented group of engineers focused on building scalable, high-quality data pipelines and platforms. Your work will enable faster impact analysis, greater reuse of data assets, and a shift toward a fully documented, productised data ecosystem.

A bit about the job:

This role sits at the heart ofAviva Quantum, our global data science practice spanning Machine Learning, AI, Analytics, and Engineering. You’ll be instrumental in delivering robust, end-to-end data solutions that power smarter decisions and better customer outcomes.

You’ll define and embed best-in-class engineering practices, foster a culture of excellence, and collaborate across teams to unlock the full potential of our data. This is more than a technical leadership role—it’s your chance to influence strategy, drive innovation, and make a lasting impact on how data transforms our business.

Skills and Experience We’re Looking For:

  • Leadership & Delivery: Proven experience leading high-performing data engineering teams, with a focus on innovation, agility, and continuous improvement.

  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge ofSnowflake,DBT Cloud,SQL, andPython, with strong data architecture skills and alignment to enterprise standards.

  • Product Thinking: Experience defining SLAs, data contracts, and documentation to support a transparent, reusable, and productised data ecosystem.

  • Business Alignment: Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical solutions into clear business value. Experience in general insurance or the Lloyd’s/London Market is a plus.

  • Agile & Quality Focus: Skilled in Agile delivery, DataOps, and CI/CD, with a commitment to data quality, governance, and scalable pipeline development.

  • The starting salary ranges from £60,000 to £75,000 nationally and from £80,000 to £100,000 in London, depending on your location, skills, experience, and qualifications.

  • Bonus opportunity 12% of annual salary - Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s

  • Generous pension scheme - Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in

  • 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days
