About us
Our purpose is simple, to save lives at sea. For 200 years, the RNLI has been working to save those who are in danger of drowning. We are looking for a Data Engineer to join us for up to 12 months in supporting our lifesavers to fulfil this purpose.
The RNLI are embarking on an exciting journey to use data to drive the organisation and decisions both now and in the future. We’re looking for an excellent Data Engineer to be part of a fantastic team with Data driving our lifesaving activities, helping us understand and leverage the power of cloud-based data.
Our Data Engineers sit within our Data department with the aim of supporting the business and improving the way we manage, govern, and derive analysis from our data assets. The aim is to ensure we have the right data, and data systems, to create insight and evidence that will lead to fewer lives lost from drowning.

Your Role
As Data Engineer, you will:
Be responsible for implementation and day-to-day management of a new Data Lakehouse with the latest technology Use technology including Data Integration, Master Data, and Data Science/Analytics Provide a best practice approach in use of the platform capabilities to integrate systems and master data sets Work in partnership with Analysis teams in the provision of data and analysis output
About You
We are looking for candidates that are experienced in:
Data or Analytics type platforms (Data Management, Data Integration, Master Data, Data Migrations, data marts/warehouses) Working with complex ETL routines and tools T-SQL Microsoft SQL Server Databricks Data modelling Data wrangling Working with a variety of data formats and protocols (JSON, XML, CSV, Parquet, structured and unstructured data) Working with API’s would be beneficial An understanding of the software development lifecycle and a familiarity working in an agile environment. The use of source control and task management tools. Familiarity with GitHub is highly desirable.
