About The Role

As a Data Engineer, Space, Range and Formats, you will be responsible for analysing Space, Range and Formats key performance indicators and identifying areas for improvement by gathering, analysing and interpreting data to provide insights and recommendations that drive informed decision making and improve process and performance as well as influence our future strategy. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex information effectively, to facilitate this a primary focus of the roles to create a robust foundation data layer and to build and support internal-facing Management Information (MI) and Business Intelligence (BI) dashboards, for both technical and non-technical audiences. With a relentless connection to our customers, the commercial teams and branches alike, you’ll both; set up and continuously improve regular performance reporting, and lead projects to shape, optimise, and improve Waitrose performance. Rooted in adaptability, driven by a continuous improvement mindset, and fueled by a commitment to getting it right first time.

  • Expected salary - £59,000- £75,000 (dependent on experience).
  • Contract type - This position is a Permanent contract.
  • Working pattern/flexible working - The Partnership has adopted a hybrid working approach, meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The Analytics and Data Science team aim for around 2 days a week in the office to connect and on a more ad-hoc basis to attend key meetings.
  • Location - This role is based at our Bracknell Head Office.

Key Responsibilities

Data Collection, Management & Maintenance:Collect data from various sources (e.g., databases, Snowflake, CCM), ensuring data quality and accuracy. Clean, validate, and prepare data for analysis. Maintain organized data repositories.

Data Analysis & Interpretation:Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis using appropriate tools and techniques (e.g., statistical analysis, trend analysis, forecasting). Identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in data. Interpret findings and translate them into actionable insights or opportunities to drive performance

Reporting & Visualization:Create and maintain clear, concise, and visually appealing reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate findings and clear “so what” recommendations to stakeholders. Tailoring communication approach to different audiences.

Problem Solving & Solution Development:Identify business problems and opportunities. Analyse root causes and develop data-driven solutions. Evaluate the effectiveness of implemented solutions.

Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, gather feedback, and present findings. Actively participate in team meetings and discussions.

Ad-Hoc Analysis: Complete ad-hoc analysis at pace in response to key business issues or opportunities.

Essential Skills/experience You’ll Need

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in GCP Core Services: Compute Engine, GKE, Storage, SQL, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Functions.
    • Visualisation: Experience in Tableau, Looker, Power B
    • SQL: Querying and manipulating data in Cloud SQL, Snowflake or BigQuery.I
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and define problems, develop creative solutions, and implement them effectively.
  • Collaboration Skills: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams

Desirable Skills/experience You May Have

  • Space, Range & Formats Experience: Previous experience in Space, Range & Formats reporting and analysis in a Grocery Retailer
  • Data Pipelining, ETL
