The Role As a Data Engineer, you’ll play a key role in developing and maintaining robust cloud-based solutions for the benefit of data scientists, analysts, and business managers. We’re looking for a well-rounded data solutions expert, and excellent communicator, who’s varied responsibilities will include requirements gathering, system architecting, as well as writing ETL jobs and the IaC for the services they run on. You will act as a technical authority, comfortable and confident presenting new ideas to the team, stakeholders and business, and mentoring the senior engineers of tomorrow. What you’ll be doing Engage with other teams to understand their business use cases for data; interpret and document these requirements for the data platform team, and help planning the tasks that will be needed to fulfil them Ensure data governance and security standards are implemented and developed according to regulatory obligations, company policy, and modern industry best practices. Collaborate with other teams to enable sharing of data assets within secure, compliant guardrails Design and implement data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from various sources into AWS data stores such as S3 and Redshift. Build and maintain Data marts to support data analytics and reporting. Build patterns, common ways of working, and standardized data pipelines for DLG to ensure consistency across the organization Work with other Engineers and Analyst to build and maintain data-driven applications Mentor junior data engineers: lead by example in technical expertise through regular code review feedback, pairing, training, and fostering an environment of growth and continuous learning What we’re looking for: Significant years of professional experience in data modelling, designing & implementing scalable data architectures, writing and managing distributed data processing jobs Expertise in deploying and managing AWS cloud infrastructure (using terraform, CloudFormation, or similar IaC language), as well as in-depth knowledge of Glue, Lambda, and some of Athena, Step Functions, Lake Formation, Codebuild/Codepipeline, DynamoDB, S3, Kinesis, KMS, MWAA/Airflow, Redshift A strong advocate for software craftsmanship and clean code, as well as advanced proficiency in Python programming, unit testing, PySpark, and SQL Able to build end-to-end lakeshore mart, with maturity and scalability in mind Demonstrable knowledge - including strengths, trade-offs, appropriate use cases - of RDBMS, NoSQL, data lake, and data warehouse concepts, as well as specific examples of these (i.e. Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, Mongo, Redis, DynamoDB, Redshift, Snowflake, etc) An excellent communicator (both written and oral) capable of effectively articulating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders Strong business mindset and technical curiosity Able to work independently and lead on technical approaches and best practices Ways of Working Our hybrid model offers a 'best of both worlds' approach.
