Job Description

Data Engineering at abcam 

As we continue to evolve our data strategy, we have a new opportunity for a Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team in our Cambridge Head Office. It requires a team player who can work with other engineers in the company, analysts and end users to create solutions which integrate with our products. We are looking for a proactive person who likes to own solutions and use technology to make an impact on business. We have hybrid working and you will be able to work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home. 

In this role you will: 

Inspire best practice for data products and services within your teams.  Build data engineering capability. Work with colleagues to identify, plan, develop and deliver data services related to the crucial project in Abcam. 

Roles & responsibilities 

Work with other Digital team members to identify, plan, develop and deliver data services which support various workstreams. Ensure that data is managed and analysed in a secure, efficient and well-governed manner  Implement and optimise data pipelines, data modelling, and data availability to speed up time-to-production. Ensure quality of delivery as well as in depth understanding of business requirements  Work closely with data architects, TechOps engineers, and other stakeholders to build integrated, high performing solutions  Apply pragmatism and innovative thinking to make data-driven decisions which add value. Work collaboratively with the Data and Analytics team and the wider Abcam Digital team to address issues with software and integration delivery. 

Qualifications

You have a BSc in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related subject and have significant technical experience. You have experience working with a modern cloud data stack and integration of in-house and vendor-based components of the stack. Along with experience in data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical) you will have in-depth SQL experience and you will be able to think creatively about how to solve issues.

As we move towards a more cloud based environment, you will have dealt with AWS infrastructure. Your track record of project delivery will be enhanced by your experience of delivering digital transformation initiatives and ability to influence and adapt to change.
